I would like to suggest implementing a public lobby system like the one in Warcraft 3, this should certainly not replace the current matchmaking system, but serve as an alternative way of creating / finding games...
This would allow defining certain characteristics when creating or looking for a game. One could define parameters like: Language, Assumed skill level and Mode. Examples of this could be:
"English, mid skilled, random draft"
"Swedish/Danish - Low skill - All Pick"
"России - высокое мастерство - все случайные" - that’s Google translated, "Russian - high skill - all random"
My assumed skill level is low to mid, i speak Danish and English and i would like to find others with the same "parameters" as me to play with. This would allow just that, and heavily increase the chance of me finding good quality games and new mates...
It might take a while to fill up a game, but this is only a good thing imho, as this will most likely sort out those impatient/immature players...
This may require another / a separate way to handle Stats/Rating/Experience, but i still think that a lot of players would prefer this way of finding games...
