    Ladder system

    Dear valve,
    As you know, dota is a competitive game at its core. So why is it that the game does not have the competitive aspect to it? It just doesn't make sense for a competitive game like dota 2 to be casual like it is now. Many of the people who originally played dota 1 are finding dota 2 less and less enjoyable. It's great that you developed this game to this level and all, but you still have not fulfilled our basic needs for the game, and that is the implementation of some form of a ladder system. There is no reason to play dota 2 at its current form. You win some games? Great, you get some hats. Now what? I got a godlike streak. Okay. Now what?

    I'm all for having something to motivate you, but if anything I only see ladder as a means to separate the serious players from the 'creative' and 'idgaf' players.

    Also, your 'dear valve' letter isn't exactly new and inspiring, but I'll give you an 'E' for effort.

        Imho a ladder it's useless, dota2 it's not a competitive game, it's just a game that have a competitive side (tournaments ecc....) important as much as you want, but pub games are not competitive. If you mean competitive because you play with/against player, then i guess farmville is competitive too.

        There on your rating will be highly influenced by your random teammates from game to game....result? Your rank it's not yours.

          I think, he was talking not about simple ranking, but smth like different leagues. Same in general, but motivates to progress between them.

            Actually i have 200 games won and 199 lost, my rating it's around 50%, maybe if it was not for my teammates my rating would be 55%, or maybe 45%, who knows? But if you try to say that you can have a personal rating, well, you are just fooling yourself.

            And next time elaborate your answer, not just some childish slogan.

              But i assume the fact, that you contribute nothing to victory at all, so your rating completely depends on your allies deeds.
              Then, you really don't need any personal rating.

                Hey I tried. At least you know where you stand against the rest. Doesn't everyone want progression in everything? I'm only assuming that you aren't even that great of a player.

                  Anyone who says this is an idiot. Playing HoN for 3 years all my accounts ended up at roughly the same MMR regardless of teammates.

                    Firstly your point on dota not being competitive is beyond stupid. Farmville is single player. Dota is 5 VERSUS 5 where the object is to DEFEAT the enemy.

                    As to your rank not being your own, I will educate you. Your team composition is random: for every game you lose due to your team you win one due to your team. For every leaver you get, the enemy will get a leaver. This is a non factor in your Elo.

                    If you have absolutely no influence on your team (eg you win as many games as you lose for your team) you will remain at the starting Elo. You will go up when your team wins and you will go down when your team loses, but ultimately you will remain at the same Elo. If you are worse than the players around you, you will lose a net games for your team then your rating will go down. If you win more games than you lose for your team then you will go up. This is not even accounting for the fact that your opponents will get better as you go up the elo.

                    No one gets matched constantly with only players who carry them. If you look at games like HoN or LoL (the biggest other two games of the same genre who both have a solo queue) you will not see noobs in the highest brackets because it does not happen. Please stop spreading this misinformed propaganda.
                    A solution for all (including devs): ranked solo queue without visible mmr (instead brackets).
