I rather wait a few more minutes for a balanced game!

    a) He is right. The longer you wait, the bigger your search range gets, the more imbalanced it gets. People don't need longer queue times but a search-range limiter
    b) Drop the flames. Just a warning...

What people really mean is they want the rate at which the search range expands to be slowed down. In other words, it takes twice as long to reach search range x.

So it takes 10 minutes instead of 5 to create an imbalanced game and 20 instead of 10 to create a horribly imbalanced game (regarding possible MMRs, although the spread was never that high for me).
The chances of finding someone in that time becomes higher, improving the situation, but you can end up with the same MMR difference as currently.
If you limit the maximum difference, it can't happen at all.

Since one of the goals will always remain to actually find you a game within a reasonable time, an absolute limit won't happen. And parties will skew that completely.

Half the expansion rate doubles your chance of finding game at any particular search range. Which means while waiting longer on average you will also get better balanced games in return.

Technically, both teams should still be balanced, with roughly equal average MMRs. The only change is that the difference between the highest and lowest-ranked player becomes bigger, which increases the probability that the game becomes more stompy.

God forbid valve of letting us choose. Like an option. Have to keep the single magic button MM.
