  • [Suggestion] Dota 2 Hero Creator (In-game/workshop)

So here is an idea. Now that there are 7 heroes to be ported from Dota to Dota 2, soon Valve or Icefrog will start creating heroes (hopefully Icefrog).
Why not instead of that, we add some sort of system that works like the workshop items, but to create heroes? The heroes created will get rated by the community for, let's say, a month.
After that, Icefrog and Valve give the final agree or disagree if the hero is going to get added or not. There is nobody better at creating Dota heroes than the Dota players themselves.

    Update:
    Pretty much this.
An early testing of the hero would be awesome, it's actually a great idea. So here is a new system:

In order to a hero to get into the Hero Suggestion Workshop, it is required to have the following things:
    -Model (Anything else is irrelevant)
    -Available for Early Test
    -All skills
    -Description, a short concept.

And in order to give feedback about a hero, you need to download the early test and play with it at least one (2,3,4...) bot match/es to give the hero a rating. After the hero receives substantial amounts of rating, the Review team give their thoughts on the hero and agree/disagree if the hero should or not be added.

    Update 2:
    System:
1- One hero per 5 months minimum. Otherwise It's going to get really crowded.
2- The hero needs to be unique in his matter, no copy cats.
3- If the hero gets more than 5000 early test downloads or 3000+ 5 Star positive votes, It will go under review.
4- Review will be done by a Valve review team (that hopefully Icefrog will be in) and they will agree if the hero is suitable for the game or not, which means they get the last word, I mean, Icefrog gets the last word.
5- Hero gets released and credit is given to the creator/s.

    Bam, done.

    TL/DR
Hero Creator for Workshop so that community can create heroes to add in-game based on community reviews and ratings.

    LMFAO
on a serious note, playdota has a section for hero suggestions (there is also a tool to help you with that) and dev forum has a section for hero visuals. "voting" for a hero is pretty much the worst idea i heared the past week.

Why is the worst idea? I don't know about you but when there aren't any heroes left to port over, the people will want new heroes. I know there is a Playdota hero creation, but it's never taken seriously and Playdota is half dead. The biggest part of the community lies in Dota 2 now, and so my idea.

I agree with this. The probability of it happening though is very low.

People will be able to code new abilities using the new scripting system they're introducing, in theory there'd not be much stopping people from making a new hero completely from scratch if they have the scripting/modeling skill and patience (or they could just replace the slot of an existing hero nobody likes, such as OD)

putting ideas on workshop is a really bad move though, everything that has a cool image is gonna be voted 5 stars epic valve add this please and everything else will be ignored even if its a better idea

Yeah, people in the workshop tend to vote stupid stuff (big example: Drow shadowcat set/furion fungus), that's why Hero creation needs to be more important than just items, which it would be great that not only Valve get to decide, but Icefrog.

Or maybe make like a Review team that instead of deciding by the amounts of votes, they get to decide if the hero gets in or not.
5 people from Valve including Icefrog reviewing the hero, if 4 or 5 agree, the hero gets added, if 3 agree and 2 disagree, it doesn't.

Again, it's just a suggestion but it's something that would need to be in the future, I'm not judging Icefrog and his hero creation capabilities, but It's better to have the ideas of the community too, you know.

One reason why I mention the modding tools is I really feel it's impossible to REALLY judge the playstyle of a hero just by descriptions, being able to play with a potential hero's abilities (even if it's just a placeholder shitty wizard model) could give players a much better idea of how the hero plays and functions alongside existing heroes in the game. If potential heroes were made available for people to "early playtest", people would be able to give much more meaningful feedback I think.

all of those things are irrelevant to hero concept please don't mess up this thread with your thoughtless posts

model can be the shitty wizard placeholder, it worked for the development of dota 2 for a while

-1, not for this idea at all. This would make the game go stale and repetitive and would basically force valve to make a schedule with creating a hero. Next thing you know, we have players making the heros, then we have heros being named after people who created them, Then this game turns into League of lesbians. I say let valve or icefrog/valve do it at their own pace.

Ever since people invited a certain amount of others into the game and you can check their website on their forums they still take feedback on their next heros.
