  • Somehow I abandoned DOTA 2

Not meant bitching, I just wanna say that I'm getting tired of this game.
I am not a pro player, but all the spare time I spent on it - over 5000 hours make me feel confident talking about the cons of Dota 2 today. What I am going to share with you are not only the feelings from me, but also from many of my friends. Listed are some of my suggestions and complaints. And I apologize if any of these soliloquies offend you.
    1. The fun we get from Dota 2 is much lessened. To me, Dota 2 is more or less becoming some grind, played but not enjoyed. Lane, fight like a fire fighter, and win or lose. Win, cool. Lose, OK, let's queue another game. What fun is in that? Back to the days we played Warcraft Dota and the days we started playing Dota 2, this was never the case. Each kill brought with ecstasy, each mega-kill shouting led to an orgasm, and a victory could be a night's topic. But now, even a rampage can't give me the same feeling. I am feeling numb, and this feeling tire people.
    2. The picking phase needs improvements. Each time I hear the announcer says "All pick", I couldn't help sighing. Why do we have to pick like this? When the enemies have picked some annoying and OP heroes, your hope of having a good game is fucked up. No matter which hero you wanted to play at the beginning, after the enemies picked heroes like Slark or Earth Spirit, you have to reconsider to counter those bastards with a hero you didn't meant to play. And in many cases, this happens to yourself if you had a losing streak. It is rather discouraging if you picked Storm and immediately found the enemies countered you with both doom and BS. Is it fair? Is it fun? Why can't we just simply enjoy the game with ease? Change the picking phase please, at least avoid these shitty counter pickings.
    3. Win rate threshold is unreasonable . Until last month before Ranked Matching Making is implemented, I queued normal matches with my friends. They are trusty mates with fair Dota skills. Thank Valve for the considerate match making, we are forced to have a group win rate of approximately 50%. It is considerate to make us never feel too cocky or frustrated, but we can't help to hate the win rate threshold. It's like when we are having an about 5 winning streak, our opponents are playing like unskilled newbies; but when we are losing, we are stomped with our faces swollen. A lot of this kind of swings make players feel constrained. Hope that the Ranked MM system implements a better algorithm.
    4. Differences between CM and modes like AP are becoming a problem. Nowadays, the game is pretty much finished as soon as both teams are completed. In pro matches, it is quite easy to tell the winner if a team is simply out banned, since the skill gaps between pro players are narrowed and games are largely decided by the heroes chosen. Unfortunately, this is not the case in pub games. Pro players can ban IMBAs and are protected by the Captain Mode heroes pool, but who can save pub players from Brood and ES? I see no reason prohibiting certain heroes auto-banned in CM games.
    5. Less exciting games because of a minute occurrence of uncertainties and an abuse of OP heroes. Go to hell Slark! Go to hell Clinkz!
    6. I like hats, love free hats, but hate to play for hats. I spent a lot buying and collecting hats, and now all of my heroes have beautiful hats. But what will happen next? Shining hats? Cool, but the true reason why we love Dota is never the hats. Remember that Valve, or this game will eventually fail after everyone feed all their heroes up with hats.
It's good for me to talk about my understandings about Dota 2 in this forum, and hopefully someone gonna read this. I loved Dota 2, it had been an important part of my life, and would always be a part of my favorite time. But today, at the beginning of 2014, I think I'd better abandon it. Thank Valve and Icefrog for all the hard works and thank you if you finished reading this.

    1. get a life, get another activities, take a rest from play dota. dota was never a grind, u get nothing by grinding in dota (only got chest/hats if u lucky enough)
    2. dont check AP if u hate it, there are many mode beside AP
    3. nope, u're just illusioning
    4. dont check AP mode
    5. l2p
    6. is this a complain? what are you complaining about hats? too much hats? dont buy it! as easy as that. nobody forces you to buy anything in this game.
BAD person is someone who only think that he/she is a pro and others are noob and then blame the Matchmaking challenge.
GOOD person is someone who accept the Matchmaking challenge and succeeded getting a teamwork in his/her team

        Infact, OP is reasonable.

Ap is a completely joke after a certain level, for multiple reasons.
        3. Win rate threshold is unreasonable
You seem to misunderstand that if you have an over 50% winchance for a certain game, someone will have below 50%.
You're only as strong as your weakest link.

What do you expect when you mostly play only DOTA? It's like eating too much cake and complaining that it's not as delicious as it used to be.

            1. you dota2 too much i guess
            2. just because you dont tryhard, doesnt mean others wont. get good, or just play for fun.
            3. it's all RNG sometimes
            4. AP and CM are relatively the same anyway, just more organized picks in CM that's all.
            5. same thing, l2p. slark is so easily countered, bloodseeker/doom easy win. this point you stated just make you sound like a bad player.
            6. it's valve

after 5k hours of dota you'd think you'd realize AP is the most annoying tryhard mode

Who uses words like "soliloquies" and sends such a post

You were younger at the time and by the sound of it rather new to gaming, you want dota to fill more than it could/should. Dota is a flawed and time consuming game, targeting an audience you are growing out of, it doesn't mean you have to stop, but it will different.

Play the game for fun, not for the numbers.

Just take a break. Haven't played any Dota 2 for more than a week now because of playing another game. Play Dota 2 if you feel like it because it is not a job that you have to play everyday. You won't have fun if you play Dota for numbers. You play Dota because you want to play the game itself.
