  • Can we put limits on unpauses?

Just got out of a really good game. Halfway through, both teams were going back and forth on tier 3 towers, and my doorbell rang. I asked for a pause to get the door, I came back to two of our raxes gone after one player on the enemy team continually unpaused, and as Nature's Prophet, backdoored our towers because I was afk. Even players on the other team tried to pause, but this one player continued to unpause and ruin what was originally a really solid game.

Why is it that one player can unpause the game every 3 seconds, over and over? Why is there not a limit on unpauses in this game? Too many times have teams had to deal with players stepping away for a minute only to find their game in ruins.

Because pause/unpause comes down to manners.

Put a sign outside your door - "I am guarding rax at the moment, kindly turn around and go bother someone else"

I'd also put a limit on how many pauses a player can request. Time is mana, 9 people shouldnt have to wait for 1 to talk on his phone.

No. Lately due to other stuff, im playing like 1-2 games every second day and when i decide to play, i want to fucking play. Im not going to wait for the guy (enemy or ally) that just a min ago accepted a game and now he is afk, or the guy who wants to go smoke or whatever is your excuse. I assume im not the only one who is not sitting 24/7 in front of his pc so its a nono

if you can play games, you can spare a min or 2 extra.
If you can't there is no logical reason to play a dota 2 game cause that can vary more than 1-2 minutes.
It's just a common curtesy to actually wait for the guy, especially in "ranked".
But then again, people don't want to play competitively, they just want to win.

As long as it's no BS reason they are allowed to pause. Doorbell is a good reason cause it's nothing you can have control over.

Yeah people are allowed to pause and im allowed to unpause. To be honest there shouldnt be pause at all in pub games. If your team really wants the game be paused they pause multiple times and thats plenty of time.

There should be a vote system for unpauses or even pauses.

Nobody can be forced to wait for someone for whatever reason, but then again nobody has the right to ruin the game of anyone. And by unpausing and giving an unfair advantage, you are ruining the game of your team mates who may want a fair/close game. This is based on my experience of how the opponent sometimes pauses even though it's their opponent that paused first - because they are either nice or want a clean match.

pause is for the 56k dial up pentium 4 users

no need for a billion pauses due to 3rd world intro-netz

No one is obligated to keep posting in these kinds of threads forever, but still we all do it. Nobody is obligated to wait for somebody, but it's polite, and in the interests of having a fair game, to let people pause if they need it.
