  • Does anyone know the average winrate of all players in dota?

I mostly would like to know cause on dotabuff a good 68 of the heroes are under a 50% winrate. I'm just wondering if 50% winrate the average or is something else the average. Does anyone know?

    About 50.0000% approximately.

It would have to be 50%.....each game 5 people lose and 5 people win....

Each game you have 5 players winning and 5 players losing. Thats a 50% winrate average.

But abandon counts as loss even if your team wins, so it should be slightly less than 50%

            Strong logic.

The computational skills are strong in this forum.. Consider a simple example of 3 players a,b,c: a wins 49 games against b, b wins 49 games against a, a and b each win 2 games against c. The winrates are: WRa=WRb=(49+2)/100=51%, WRc=0/2=0%. Average winrate of the population: (2*51%+0%)/3=34%. Even if you do the weighted average, which would be much more relevant here, you still won't get exactly 50% : (51*100+51*100+0*2)/(100+100+2)=50.49%

Win% is set by valve at 50% and any deviation from that percentage is the margin of error.

LOL, it isnt a conspiracy by Valve, it's just the nature of the game. There is 5 winners and 5 losers in the game.

Yes, yes, I get the funny math behind the 'technically' true statement but I was referring to players in general.

                      Forced 50%.

Would you feel better if you were given random teammates and opponents instead of 9 players with ratings similar to yours?

if your winrate is around 53% or above, you're gosu dude.

not really, it depends at which "point" (nb of games played) you are looking. The 50% is the "set point" in the plot below and the overshoot is the initial calibration matches where mediocre players can rejoice in stomping random noobs. Afterwards, you have your decay as your matchmaking increases close to your true rating and you will be equally likely to win or lose (Note: this is where the common player's horror begins - a slow, agonising descent where they feel that Volvo must be sabotaging and punishing them for being so good in the first place!). So any player at "time T1-T2" on the plot is likely to have a 53+% win-rate. In time, given that there are players at your level (aka. you're not in top 0.001%) you will settle to 50%. It's the only natural and correct consequence of a sufficiently accurate MMR system.
