Okay, this is just getting ridiculous

I have played dota since og, and I've been in the dota2 beta for a year, with well over a thousand games played.

The game has evolved in a number of ways since initial beta release, but there are some static features that have been added that ... just getting to a point where I can't take this anymore.

So, to the point.

Why are there language preferences? Seriously, I really want to know. I select English as my preference, and I get teamed up with with players who don't speak English more than 50% of games, chiefly Brazilians, sometimes Russians, on occasion Asians.

Now, before everyone gets uppity and calls me racist in attempt to throw this thread in the trash, this has absolutely nothing to do with racism. It's simple statistics.

Inability to communicate with teammates due to language barriers massively decreases chances of victory.

One of two things needs to happen.

1. eliminate the language preference, I honestly don't know why you implemented in the first place since it does nothing.

2. restrict queueing such that selecting X language preference restricts you to the relevant region.

I'm just getting tired of queueing USE/USW with English preference, and nearly every game having teammates who are in another country and speak some other language.

So, make a decision, 1 or 2, you can't have it both ways, and the current way is just completely and utterly annoying.

Tough bones, you can't please everyone, and if you try you'll end up pleasing no one, which is exactly what's occurring now. Things that work shouldn't be changed just because a small portion of the population argues exception.

im just tired of playing with people that have 350 ping. in war3 u would just kick these people from the lobby since they ruin the game for everyone. most of those ppl are foreigners but really its anyone that has that kind of ping. how can u expect to do well with 350-400 ping?

But what if my English is flawless and I don't want my gaming experience ruined because I live in a very small country? No problem. OP isn't Valve and they would never be that draconian.

You might note, I presented two options, and you guys are all playing it like I only mentioned one.

Also, just... a little tidbit, I do queue with friends... quite frequently in fact. You know what that doesn't fix? Being pitted against garbage teams from brazil and basically not having a fun match because there's no competition. Just this evening that exact scenario happened. We ended up with a 61-10 team kill ratio. Some might wish all their games were so "awesome", but for a player who wants to actually improve (namely myself) playing against foreign teams that are this bad is virtually a waste of time.

Maybe it's because the brazlilians and all those races you hate don't have their preferences set up correctly.

Maybe they just got lazy and put it to english.

Or maybe since it's just a "preference" Dota matchmaking finds players as fast as they can only minimally using the preferences so it will find matches faster.

I doubt any of us want longer matchmaking times just to be able to speak with the players we play with

I love how uninformed you are to the fact that there are several SA players who get better ping on US servers than on SA (before you start bitching, it's due to poor routing of SA ISPs, nothing valve can do about it).

Finally, what you're asking for is just another iteration of region lock. One that has been suggested tons of times; Valve shows no signs of wanting to segment the community and hopefully never will. Sorry, but I don't get paid to spend time to come up with ideas. I'm not a valve employee, sue me if my idea isn't 100% flawless right off the bat. If I was paid to, I could easily find a solution, but I don't waste my time on pet projects that don't pay.

I love how assumptive you are. I'm not uninformed, I just don't care. I want my experience improved.

Furthermore, allowing a higher number of people does not automatically make it more competitive. Are you daft?

If the NFL just let anyone play, the better players would crush the plebs, just like in any game. Competition is about rooting out the bad players so the good players remain. Maybe you should think through your response next time so it doesn't take two seconds for your idea to come crashing down on you.
