  • Expectations exceeding ability and the report system

    Game ID: 478179794

This was an example of a rare win for Dota matchmaking. Both teams seemed evenly matched with non-elite players. Nobody did anything reportable, with the exception of NP who inexplicably had a temper tantrum about items and took the courier on a tour of the map. Here's the problem, players on both teams, even in their exceeding mediocrity felt the need to call everyone ELSE a noob. Constant whining about "report (player) for noob", "report (player) for KS", report (player)" no reason given....often. In the end, the BH finished better than everyone else. Maybe he was a bit better, maybe he just happened to get fed. Either way, it was a pretty decent game.

Players need to be educated on reporting each other. Is the player displaying:

    Communication abuse
    Intentional feeding
    Ability abuse

If not, there is nothing to report. Being a noob, failing to meet expectations, making your best effort but feeding, or having a different item build or style than whatever appears in the guide YOU prefer is NOT reportable. Quit your crying, and if you know a way somebody can be better, advise them. If you can't, then shut your yap(or your keyboard).

For that matter, being a great player is not a criteria for commendation either. "Friendly" is the main way opponents may have reason to commend you. If you were friendly or humorous, you might get one. If you're begging at the end of games, I can assure you, it's quite unlikely.

Welcome to dota 2 where everyone is a noob to you.
You are the undiscovered pro that can't shine because of noobs and this mmr system.
You are the inevitable ti4 champion, but yet again noobs brings you down.
    You are flawless.
    You are god.

Valve granted us the power to report anything we think it deserves a report, whether it's feeding, taking the mid lane or buying Agh on Lina/Lion. That's a fact we need to live with.

Then they should include an option for "Other - explanation required"

Sometimes I feel like labeling these kinda people with "You suck" title would help to get the point across.

You are right. Expectations exceeding ability is a big issue.
