  • DOTA 2 CAMPAIGN

    When I read the Dota lore I was captivated by the depth and personality the developers created. When I played through the tutorial I realized the potential for a campaign.

    I think if you implemented them on maps that the community could buy that would sequence maybe a hero's story with a new gamemode or that played through like the tutorial with voice overs (think the quest system) you could charge enough money to fund it. There are millions of other ideas I have in my head and I would like to share this with you before I share it with the world.

    You can't demand to be created a Dota 2 campaign because they didn't even finish all heroes, bugs and other important and urgent things.

    A campaign take a lot of time and needs a lot of work, mostly cinematic work...I don't see this happening in the next 3 years or more.

      Yeah, when I saw that tutorial I remembered campaings from Warcraft. There is a potential, but I guess it's too much work to do, and most people won't buy it. But there is a rumor that custom maps+level editor might be coming, so perhaps we will see community-created camplaings. Though to actually create a lore-based campaing, you need devs to do it, with voice-overs and such.

        Its not a demand! I would like Valve to come out and say it even if they give a release date of 7 years from now. Also they could release characters campaigns that teach the specific character but every character is like 1 dollar to play through. If they just staggerly relase it maybe 1 character a month that told a story like the walking dead it wouldnt take as much time to get some content out and they could charge a subscription to fund it.


        The point of this is like to make more money from the free to play model, this subscription and episodic content has been proven in the past few years, (netflix, free to play PC games, Tell Tale, Youtube)

        And then you always have the main game of dota for free, so now you can optionally pay when your hooked onto the competitive and community side valve has setup.

        And then valve can appeal to the community even more and release these tools and ICE FROG and Valve have done it.

        They took a custom game that stood out among 10000000's of other custom games and had a following, created original content which he can take the model from warcraft 3 and monotise it like skins and shit.

        THE POTENTIAL FOR DOTA IS HUGE

        SPREAD THE MESSAGE

        Now this changes the market is such a creative way where this model is applied to other content and develops the <i>internet marketplace meta</i>

          Campaign would be cool, but I don't think it's a priority for development.. You might call the tutorials a kind of crappy campaign though..

              Not sure if you are sarcastic or not, or just haven't read good stories, but you are right we could have campaigns but i would mostly do them as cheese lighthearted actions flicks.

                  it would be very possible to make single-player RPG-esque campaigns using the new addon system, this sort of thing is more likely to come from the fanbase than from valve itself

                          Compaign is a good suggestion. I would play it if there is one but it doesn't fit well with this game concept. Dota is more fun playing with friends or PUB matches. If it is compaign it is just you and computer. I am not sure if everyone likes playing compaign i mean it may not be as competative as itself. But i did liked sniper little training compaign episode. But this is a huge request especially if they have to build for each hero in game.. it may takes years considering the amount of development it requires such as story, music, voice, build map development and much more..

                            Its good idea if that singleplayer would be good you can learn what to do with your hero better than playing against bots, just hope valve wont became lazy golddigger :P
