  • Strange skill level change from different times of day on US servers

    Hello everyone,

I noticed something very strange that I was hoping maybe the devs could confirm if they read this, or other plays who have experienced something similar. When queuing late night for US west there is a major skill level increase around the upper 3k lower 4k (3.8k to 4.2k) mmr bracket. By this I mean around 12PM to 4AM, and it think it has a lot to do with Asian players queuing for US West hoping for easy wins. I find the opposite true for US East, where late night I am consistently matched with South American players and often am the highest skilled on my team and have extremely long queue times (3m+, avg around 4 minutes) with blue/pink color meaning I have the longest queue time for my team.

Has anyone else discovered anything similar? I suggest anyone hoping for good late night games on US servers to queue for US West, the people on your team generally might not be great in English but they make very few mistakes.

Another thing is that I really suggest that Valve makes a change where you are never the highest mmr player on your team twice in a row on these lower mmr games. Obviously this can't work for 5k+ mmr because pros will consistently be 5.6k+ and the highest mmr player on the team but for lower level games I think it will resolve a lot of the frustration some people have with matchmaking.

That post, confusing a bit !!

Are you trying to say that when you party with your friends and you observed some high skill level player in game?
And seeing Asain players in US server is very very common, and it has no connection with what you saying. Match Making sytem will still try match you with equal MMR players.

All I can say from my personal 3k-3.5k experience range, is that generally I will get abysmal matches at night (both east and west NA), and decent matches in the day. No really, night-time matches you with teamates that make the game unplayable.

there's definitely pockets of skill variation depending on different times of day. a 4k player who plays mostly in the morning is not as skilled as a 4k player who plays mostly in the evening.

In 3k to 3.5k the matches are very bad in my opinion. In my experience I encountered a lot more people who did not speak good English between 3k and 3.5k and made a good amount of mistakes. I carried myself out of 3.3k starting to 4k then back down to 3.6k then back up to 3.8k. I find 3.6k is pretty much the limit where I can carry my team even if they are playing poorly if I pick a snowball mid. I really suggest trying your best to pick your best heros to lift yourself out of that because I really did not have much fun in that mmr area.

I would agree with this. Mostly because at night people just don't communicate through voice chat (me included), so its limited to understanding the people you are playing with and text chat which means people need to understand the game better.

What I'm trying to say is these people queue in Asia and US West and the skill level at their MMR is much higher in Asia in upper 3k and lower 4k than it is in US West leading to higher skill games on average. These players I only get matched with late at night because in their timezone they are usually sleeping during USA peak hours. This is on Solo Queue and Party Queue both.

These are just my opinions gathered from my experience with RMM, obviously others will disagree somewhat.

It's due to common logic, if you play in the hours your appropriate server tends to be less active you get paired up more with foreign idiots of incredibly low skill

Only hardcore gamers play at night.

Casual players play during the day.

If you play at night, you'll get more tryhards, higher skill but also more raging.

Well that was true for dota 1. For dota 2, there are also foreigners thrown in.

And for some reason, it seems that most peruvians play at night too
