  • How to pronounce these DOTA words?

There are some items that I cannot pronounce in DOTA 2

The most tricky one is how do we pronounce Mekansm? It sounds weird if I directly pronounce like "mekanzem" that sounds like "magazine" lol. I hear some people pronounce like "mechanism" but it's also weird because it's not spelled like that.

The second is Mjollnir. I have no idea how to pronounce it. Every time in game I just type or say "the big maelstrom" :P

I even get tongue twisted when I say Aghanim's Scepter. I know it's like "aganim" but I always say it like "ahanim". So most of the time I just say scepter, hoping my teammates will know that I mean Aghanim's Scepter, not the other ones.
In China we name the different scepters by color. Aghanim is called blue stick, Dagon is called red stick and Ghost Scepter is called green stick, which is really straightforward.

The last one is Eul's Scepter of Divinity. I don't know whether it's "youl" or "owl". Do we have a nickname for that? In China we call that "wind stick".

By the way Chinese DOTA nomenclature is really interesting. If you guys want to know how Chinese call any hero/skill/item, just reply and I will tell you.

The voice actors pronounce Mek the same was as "Mechanism" - whether it is correct is up to debate.

Mjollnir is a hammer from the actual folklore, just like Monkey King Bar. The easiest way to pronounc it is "Miiolnir".

It's pronounced like mechanism as you've stated.

Me-yol-ner is as close to pronunciation as I can get here.

      aganim is closest.

      "you'll"s

I would say that's more of a slang rather than the official item names in Chinese. Just like in English players say "Sheepstick" instead of "Scythe of Vyse".

Exactly. Chinese say "sheep blade" instead of sheep stick.
But I wonder in DOTA 1 it changes a hero into a chicken and in DOTA 2 it changes a hero into a pig. Why is it called sheepstick instead of pigstick or chickenstick?

                    1. An old habit.
                    2. Valve's overlook. The item icon does have a sheep skull, so I`m more inclined to believe it was a little goof by Valve.

Actually the sheepstick is called like that because it did the same as the ability "polymorph" of the human sorceress and (old lina model), it turns into a pig because transforming it into a sheep would be a like a copy of the ability polymorph (i think is also an abilty from WoW)

I'm far more curious why Dota players insist on pronouncing the 'L' in salve.
