  • we need a low priority appeal system

I played dota yesterday and abandoned because of network problem. When I fixed the problem and reconnect to the game, it was already abandoned. My teammate did not even pause for me. When I am back, they can do totally nothing but say sorry. I finally helped my team won the game and find that I get no battle point or ingot. Furthermore, my rank point was deducted and I can not play ranked game for a whole day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This is not the first time. Five minute is not that long, especially, when the computer configuration is not that good. I do think we need a 24-hours appeal system to review the display for those dotars abandoned for excusable reason and reconnected finally, and even help your team won the game. Or there is no clue to try so hard to reconnect. Simply close the game and wait your 'low priority time' past might be a better choice. (I am not saying I will do so as I love dota and do not want to ruin the feeling of the others. But there is really a lot of people giving up the game because of this.) Punish in the same level is not that a clever way to deal with this problem would build up bad habits for dotars.

Just play in co-op boot match. Pick pushing hero and throne the boots in 4-6 minutes. Every player on co-op boot match knows to pick pusher and go 5 man mid.
Death created time to grow the things that it would kill.

And how should an appeal system "know" that you had network problems?
If you think I've closed or deleted a post unjustified, feel free to PM me and I'll explain it to you/discuss it with you further.

He did reconnect to the game after all. I don't think a true leaver will reconnect to the game he considers as lost.

Yes, this implies that the system shouldn't be automated. Oops.

That just gives trolls more tools to disrupt games....

The problem with appeals is that everyone will do it, even if they are at fault. It's just gonna be a massive waste of time..

About a year ago my Internet provider was having severe issues and ended up getting 10 dcs in one week, as it would either be perfect of randomly start dcing me every 3-5 minutes

So you know what I did, I quit playing until my connection was fixed and played out all of my LPQ with no complaint because regardless of whether the problem was under my control or not I still ruined games for other people

Fix your shit or don't play

And how does the system know I did not? Its a one sided system that bans the guilty and innocent without seeing the difference. Dota 2 has become a death grip of moderation/filtering. The system as designed today is one where you ban just incase....automatically...controlled by a algorithm.

Please...defend a system that has little to no complexity. I wrote more complex algorithms in first year of my C.S. degree using Basic....

Quit the Game > Low Pop
Reported in the Game by multiple people > Low Pop
Friends in your group quit without any of your control (wife calls them away...work issues,....who knows) > Low Pop

I do not see the commend system that helps players...only one that punishes them. So you see all we have is a system that promotes punishment and does not in any way promote success or good gameplay.

So please....how does the system know I did not have network issues I ask?

@ ochie: Since you are such a good programmer please tell how the algorithm would work.
You ruin a game if you DC and there is a grace period of 5 minutes. Being dced for 5 minutes pretty much ruins a game which lasts - on average - 35 minutes (at least my games).

If there wasn't low priority there would be tons of leavers.

An appeal system on a sentence which can be served within in a day means that the appeal system has to be fully automated.

Regarding "but he reconnected": That's what the 5 minutes are there for. You could reconnect after 10, 15 minutes but that's an huge gap. It's better if the system says you abandoned meaning other people can leave without getting an abandonment as well.

And anyone would appeal the punishment if it is possible. An appeal system means that someone has to manually check the appeals.

                    +1 to OP.

Sometimes punishment has no sense or it's just internet dropped. How do you prove this ? Picture of internet connection not working and then after it comes back you show the game you participated in. The pictures must include the time so you can show when exactly this happens. It's not that complicated.

P.S: Stop thinking only about yourselves. You play dota 5v5 not 1v1. If shit like that happens don't be a jerk.

The "complication" comes when you have to assign someone from Valve to check these appeals. Compare the amount of incoming would-be reports to the number of Valve employees working on DOTA 2 and you will see the problem here. Adding a screenshot as "proof" just made automating the processing of appeals from complicated to impossible. You want people to stop thinking about themselves but isn't demanding for an appeal system the same thing as being selfish? You are asking for special treatment for committing a violation whether it was intentional or not.

                        Eh.
You seriously suggest valve should start invidually viewing some screenshots of peoples nonfunctional internets? Besides who the fuck cares anyway. The abandon penalty is not for ragequits, its for all quits including bad internets.

Howabout you just play those few lpq bot games and be done with it? Not like its big deal.

I cant believe how many people spend $100 per month on sets and cosmetics and they cant shell out an extra $50 for a reliable internet provider.

Pay up cheapskates. Shitty internet and shitty router is no way to get ahead.

the system is automated and exploitable with ZERO human interaction

this is impossible because valve is new to mobas and a little dumb to be honest....

Never really understood the "company is new to MOBA" argument. The only company that had previous MOBA experience is S2 but only because they abandoned HoN and are working now on Strife.

If anything Valve is doing a lot correct compared to other MOBA/ARTS creating companies. And Valve has lots of experience compared to other companies.

But sure you are going to tell me Valve is "a little dumb" when they are one of the best gaming companies out there, if not the best.
