A person or two leaves your team. This results in an unfavourable advantage to the enemy team. Yet somehow I still get a loss on my record when it should not have been. Leavers should also get punished, to some degree, for leaving the game and leaving their teammates out in the dust.
Some people may argue that sometimes it could be an internet problem but why would you play a game your internet cannot handle in the first place.
I've seen a greater percentage of players leaving my games than I would have if I played League.

The loss on your record only matters if you care about records.

Leavers are getting punished. There is an abandonment system which will lead to Low Priority Pool (LPQ). A place for offenders usually filled with leavers/trashtalkers etc. Hopefully they learn something and try to avoid that place.

Sadly there are people who admit to leaving/trashtalking etc. but still think the punishment of LPQ/mute is too high. Even though in other MOBA games the punishment are more severe. In LoL for example you get temporary banned up to perma ban through tribunal and there is leaver buster, auto temp ban for leaving games.

      Regarding the stat records:
The games has to be recorded else it could be easily abused by having a friend leaving for you. You can easily queue up with a friend even though you are not in a party.
