I'm saying that if you're always playing against 4k MMR and maintain a 50% wr, logically your MMR should deviate towards 4k, which it doesn't.

Your MMR goes up based on how much the matchmaking system thinks your percentage chance of winning is. If it is the normal 50% win chance, it changes by the standard 25. The higher the chance of victory, the less it increases by and the more it will drop by if you lose.
The matchmaking also tries to create matches where there is a similar total MMR between both teams as shown in the table about 3/4 of the way down on this page:

That blog post also explains the matchmaking system more as well.

Party MMR
If MMR change depends on the difference between your MMR and your opponents' MMR, then how come when playing in party, both players' MMR changes by the same amount? Say if you have a 3k and a 5k player playing together, they will get matched in 4k games, and, say, have a 50% winrate. The 5k player will always stay around 5k, and the 3k will always stay around 3k, even though they always play 4k games. Shouldn't both their MMRs deviate towards 4k instead?Tags: None
