  • Will there be a solution to teach players laning assignments?

I've been playing Dota 1 and Dota 2 for years, but during the past week the past 10 of my games or more have had more foreign players and others that either pick extremely poor picks or put themselves into the worst possible lanes. For example, I'll pick or random a mid hero and call mid, but then two others will pick pudge and invoker and they will both go into the offlane together and feed. Or another example is I queued for a ranked match yesterday where two players highlighted TA and one player picked TA. The other player threw such a massive shitfit that he picked am and started 0-38 chain feeding down mid lane while the TA player did the same. That kind of shit has never happened to me in any dota 2 match, let alone a ranked game.

This isn't exactly a post about me QQ'ing about it, but it just seems that if matchmathing continues to be what it is, you're going to start seeing a long term problem where players from other regions, new players, or just plain bad players will completely ruin games and make you lose from the hero selection screen. Other MOBA's are addressing this issue in different ways to encourage players to sort themselves into lanes or eliminate laning drama altogether. I don't have to talk about those other games or go into detail about what they are doing, but they are still being smart and proactive about the laning drama problem. Having Valve think of some sort of solution would be pretty nice.

The game becomes a hell of a lot less fun when you essentially lose at the picks or drafting phase. If you queue into most of your games and they are unwinnable, you will just go play another game and have more fun in general.

Do you guys think maybe Valve could or will implement another tutorial about recommended lanes for heroes? Or perhaps change the queuing system to accommodate us?

No thanks, after they made those tutorials we currently have I suddenly started seeing snipers with arcane boots walking around.

The only thing that they should do is that captains should be able to put hero portraits on the map before players can pick the hero similar to how you can in all-pick. Hate it when I make a specific draft, tell people what hero is in what lane in the chat and some Russian takes a trilane support and moves him mid or offlane. Refusing to adhere to the lanes chosen by the captain should be a banable offense.

I've never seen an arcane boots sniper but it wouldn't hurt to have something.

Two things people need to be encouraged doing

        1) Play bots - If you take sniper long lane and get annihilated by a stun/carry combo or stun/stun you'll hopefully clue in that you're doing something wrong. Bots can teach so many basic skills in DotA it's surprising how many people foolishly dismiss them as simple A.I
        2) Get a coach/friend - In addition to using bots for learning have someone who is more experienced in the game point out basic tips such as laning

Playing pub games, whether solo or less then a five stack always has the human factor. You might get a drunk ally, someone who doesn't speak your language, a bad player, someone trying something new, or someone who simply has a bad game. The possibilities are endless, and it will have a direct impact on the outcome of your game. Nothing will ever change that until you 5 man, and even then one of your group mates (until you get a really close group of friends) may screw you over.

Could Valve optimize the steps new players go through before getting into live matches? For sure. But there's a fine line and it's not always so black and white.

Funny thing, the ONE FIRST TIME I used the lane selection map thingy when hero picking, is when some juggernaut told me to suck his dick after I told him to pay attention to the lane selection map to see who already was assigned to each lane.

This community is a lost cause really... No ammounts of bug fixes, clever features or anything else you might cram up in the game, the people who play this will always point fingers, complain about bullshit, "pick a stick on fire when fighting a whale in the middle of the sea", and just be the most rude one can be in a few minutes.
