  • 75% of Multiplayer Games Filled with Item-Farming Bots

    Hi all,

These last few days that I've been playing, a LOT of the games in multiplayer, we've been matched against teams of bots, probably farming items.
Here is a game ID as an example: 616731790

They just attack move up the lanes, casting spells now and then, lose, then get a bunch of items.

Not sure if something can be done about them...

    Regards,
    Arthur

      Farming Items sounds like crap.
You normally only get Items for LVL'ups or with luck after a normal game.
Also the BOT Farming Method sounds like seen in low prio or very low rankings.
If the BOT's are using external accounts and then play like shit, Dota will rank
      them low.
Okay they could farm in their low region in the Theory.
But the chance to receive an Item of value after a game is quite low aswell.
So the BOT's would collect a bunch of common crap.
      One per hour maximum.
Worth it? Worth it to bann it?

      EDIT:

      Oh and,
      75% of all Games?

If there are a million bots farming and they all earn a common item worth 0.01 per hour that's a TON of money per HOUR and ALL DAY LONG.

Might be happening in lower brackets or New accounts, I have no idea about this, never seen it or heard of it actually happening but might be a concern.

Running a million bots actually costs quite some money. I'm pretty sure the power costs for running Dota for one hour is more then 0.01

Apart from that, botting is a real issue. It's definitly not happening in 75% of the games, but even in a small portion it's enough. Unfortunatly there is not really much you can do about it. People can just create new accounts after bans and trade away the stuff before getting banned. Backtracking all the items will be a pain :/

its not like valve did that back in the tf2 days already.

I will not command on what valve did to fix the issue. I just say many bots were closed (because there bank acc was banned from steam)
If you find spelling errors, you are free to take them.

Ok fine. Virtual PC's on one box with different proxies on each and new accounts for bonus items on level up? Cloud computing for thousands of instances for VERY little money. Zombie PC's. Items are probably on average worth more than 1c. Chinese bills are probably less than american bills so the power costs are probably lower. Happy now?

I dont know about 75% of ALL games, but it's been 75% of MY games these last few days.

We've just been force disconnecting ourselves during game-load when we see a team of bots, to avoid being stuck in a game with them, but it's still quite a time waste

If you watch the replay of the game ID above, it's very obvious it's a team of bots, heck, from the names (names are always serial, like ABC-1, ABC-2, ABC-3, ABC-4, ABC-5, or all with the same name, like in the game ID above) alone. We reported all 5 of them as well.

Other conditions that apply to us:
We're playing mostly as teams of 3-5 people
1 of us is very low level, rest are reasonably leveled, I'm lvl 101 for example
Region was EU east for the game I posted the ID of above, I believe. We've been queuing mostly EU east and SE Asia
                  Language is English only

Also, note, it's only been happening to me the last few days. Never experienced it before that.

Only "new factor" i can think of, is that we had a new player (like, first game type player) join us, and have been experiencing it since then, so perhaps it's only matching us with the low level bots because of this? Either way, it could be happening to a lot of first-game players out there.

So the BOT's would collect a bunch of common crap.
                    One per hour maximum.
For the cost/benefit discussion: all the bots seem to have bonus XP boosters equipped (do new accounts start with them, these days?) and if I remember, 4 or 5 of them got items that game, mostly uncommons.

Also, regardless of whether it's worth banning them for the timewasting aspect of it or not, these bots are a drain on Valve's servers, which still has to host them all, and also potentially a drain on the economy, by manufacturing God-knows how many items (I wonder what the chance is of them lucking out and getting mythicals or more for their post-game levelups)

                      Name means nothing.
Lot of people name themself for fun like 'Bot Passive' etc.

                      And to the costs:
Maybe the Power costs are lower in China, but the Items are not worth the Server costs.

any dota2 acc has the gift box were you get standard items out of it like for example a battle booster. So yeh if you have ~ 100 bots running 24/7 lvling up like mad you will get thos as well :\

Anyways. The only thing i can think of is reporting there steam profile (you can do that via steam overlay -->under "friends" --> "view players" -->current players -->profile--> more -->Report Violation

Do lots of people also auto-push up lanes, casting spells on creeps, buying the same items, dying and repeating all game?

We're just not willing to take the risk after that game.
Any time we've been matched with people who have all got the same or serially named nicks, one of us disconnects during the loading screen.
If they msg then obviously we'd rejoin and play it out, but we can be fairly certain just by their nicks and steam/dota profiles that they are bots.

Anyways. The only thing i can think of is reporting there steam profile (you can do that via steam overlay -->under "friends" --> "view players" -->current players -->profile--> more -->Report Violation
Will do, we'd reported them through the Dota2 reporting previously, with "Intentional Feeding" tag and a description, but in the future I can report their steam profiles too.

It's just a pain in the ass, delays us finding a real game by quite a lot!

The first box items are not tradable.
Afterwards only every 5 lvl one tradable Item of higher quality.

At least he managed to buy Power Treads
Still you can not judge everyone for his name in Dota even if
                            some are Bots.

I can't see a easy way to deal with this problem.
Valve could bann for repeating intentional feeding (in massive use)
or check the source of all 5 Team members. If they have the same
source and are known for feeding... set them on the red list.

                            For example.
Here is a lot to discuss

If we talk about bot nets, most of the time they have 1 weak point: 1 point from what every other bot is connected to. If you find this knot, you can see, what items are coming in (from other farming items bots) and what items are sold or transfered to other zombies.

If you make this knot not usable anymore, the whole bot net falls apart (you can do that by baning payments from that user, or IP/mac/hardware ID ban them via vac). As soon as a user enters thos infos again, he gets auto vacĀ“ed

But finding it in over 65 mill. steam accs is a hard task if you dont want to ban users not involved in it :\
