  • Private Steam profiles and reports

Much can be said about the right to hide stats and hide your profile to other players that you do not know. But it can also be used to avoid being reported for racism, harassment and other stuff. Valve, you gotta make sure that people can still be able to report violation on users with hidden profiles. Not only the ingame report which still is possible to use, but the steam community report. The ingame report function is to my knowledge just for muting or low priority for minor offenses, whilst I'd say that the steam community violating is for more severe violations, like severe racist comments and harassment.

At this time a player can spectate a game and make a lot of really severe comments, and you can do nothing to report him if his profile is private.

    TL;DR
Make it possible to report violation on the steam community for players with hidden steam profiles.

You can see Steam profiles of all players in the game through the overlay.

alt+tab -->in "friends" window "view players" <--that shows all players, you played with recently. From there, you can go to there steam profiles
If you find spelling errors, you are free to take them.

Are you sure ur not confusing private steam profile with private dota profile?
Because I tried this just before posting the topic, and I couldn't access their steam profile.

you can mute them already by clicking on there name-->ignore player. Steam reports are only needed, if what they do is against steam tos.

Severe racist comments and harassment generally are against every possible ToS considering it is against the laws of most contries, and it's not about just not having to listen to them, it's about making sure that they don't keep up that behavior and bother others as well.

Besides, most users are not aware that you can find players profiles in the way you described above, which in practice makes a private profile a shield against violation reports.

There might a reason on why valve never told anyone that this exists: People would mass report via steam instead of the normal report button. thus making it harder for steam moderators to keep steam clean.

Yeah, you might be right. However, at the moment it seems totally impossible to report a spectator with private profile.

Or you can just disable spectators chat.

people already do that and you ll see lots of times people saying that they have reported someone on steam via multiple accounts. Thing is, that report is for things that happen in steam community. (forums, workshops etc etc) It is NOT for ingame stuff. If you cant report someone, it means you are not supposed to and you should move on with your life. Its internet, anyone can say anything. If you are having a problem with it, your life is gonna be horrible out there.
