No one. The system is automatic.

If a set number of reports reach a threshold that person gets Chat/Mic banned.

No one verifies it. It is an automated process

That is, you give a report even if you're not guilty you get mute?

If you get reported several times in a succession, yes. But multiple reports from a single game count as one, so you need to be reported in several games.

Valves "solution" to wrong reports is cutting your weekly reports to 3. But the only thing that this achieves is that you can mic and/or chat abuse all the time without ever getting banned for it because your victims don't have any reports left. Source: I rage A LOT and I was only chatbanned for 24 hours once since the change to 3 maximum reports.

No one, its fully automated despite valve's constant campaign from a while ago in which they insisted it was not automated.

From personal experience I think thats not how it works, I think what they disabled by disabling "Gang reporting" is parties. meaning if all 4-5 members of a party report you it still counts as one. However I think if multiple non partied people report you, they still seem to add up.
Make a NON automated report system.
I would rather wait 10 minutes for a balanced, fun and exciting match that will last 1+ hours. Than wait 10 seconds for a poorly balanced crapmatch that will end in 30- minutes
Valve, How I'm I supposed to respect certain boundaries to prevent a mute if I dont know them because they are different for each and every person on each and every game I play?

Multiple people ganging up on you to report you in the same game has no effect on whether or not you are banned. We are looking at patterns of behavior over time only.
While patterns is a funny term here due to being simply a time span, it clearly says "same game" and not "same party". This should also include enemies.

Yeah that they stated at that time, and I do believe thats how it was before, but not too long ago I get the feeling they changed it to parties (Again, in this case its just a feeling) And I dont intent do sound bitchy or call valve a lier, but you gotta consider that they were firm with their campaign of "The mute system is NOT automated" And also...

They are NOT directly saying what we assume (only 1 report per game counts) For some reason valve seems to enjoy making things sound cryptic, and I believe they do that when they are simply trying to make something seem something else. In which case you could interpret that phrase like we have been doing for a while, but you could also interpret "ganging up on you" to people who are in party (the gang).

I also loved that phrase since they got that statement out X) its so funny how they want to make "x reports in x games =mute" sound as something complicated or that actually analyses something"Patterns of behaviour over time" X)

If there was some kind of analysis of the text and/or voice of the game either done automatically or by a human being, that would be investigating the behaviour of the reported player.

I'm pretty sure the mute system was not always automated (or rather the entire report system). The post where Eric stated it isn't was from 2011 (or early 2012? can't find it) with WAY less players. The statement that reports get checked and heavy offenders put in an automatic pool makes quite sense. Changing it from "1 report per game" to "1 report per party, unlimited per game" however makes no sense at all.

If you ask me global mute with no option to unmute that player even if you want to in a team game where cooperation is vital makes no sense at all, but its still there.

The previous mute system I dont know, I didnt do any testing with that one. This mute system, I tested it when I saw that statement released (2-3 days after that) In a party of 4 friends, they all reported me and I got muted after one single game (it was before they implemented the non gang thingy) And as part of the test I didnt write ONE SINGLE LINE OF TEXT (not even gg) and I didnt use voice chat even once.

And also some of the things that were wrong even before that statement was that players were getting their mute time increased while already being muted (Meaning they were reported AND PUNISHED for communication abuse while being muted) And this error was even before the release of that statement.

It has always been automated, its just another of the times they have played with words...because TECHNICALLY Speaking its not fully automated (Fully automated would mean 0 interaction with humans in any part of the process) So by saying its not automated, they probably meant the reports. The system requires people to report other people to work, hence its not automated. An automated system would require no reports to function (Could make analysis of text in games for example and look for patterns of speech that could be insults or similar)

In my opinion better would have to decide the players give mute or not other players (via a special button) and don't block the who yells. So it would be more democratic and fair. Moder please give my idea to the developers, thanks

The "system" is automatic. When you get 3 reports (even if you didn't deserve any) you will get muted. First time 24h, then 48h, 72h,168h. Or recently: 24h and then directly 168h.

This system is very bad and ruins all the fun.

There should be only the report for the intentionally feeding/game ruin that will send the players into a "watch" zone and then they can get low priority games.

But, they haven't change this horrible system for 1 year now(more or less) and thus this Thread will be closed.
