  • constant harass by bots and hackers

    i been under "attack"
every other day i get friend requests from people i don't know

its always a automated message says
    "please add my other account"
    (fake link)

not sure if its just one guy or something cuz' someone on my friends list just sent me a link to download mumble
[scam link removed by mod]<--- fake website
and i was in the party with this guy it sounded super genuine... and not a robot automated message.
and finally someone got through after months of being spammed.

i contacted steam support about this and wrote a ticket and all
but i just wanted to make sure others knew
    w

so, am i the only one being harassed by bots or is this community wide issue. ??

is there anyway to make sure the hackers don't have access to my account anymore.
because they are able to bypass steam guard.

i reinstalled windows and steam. but i am still using old harddrives for storage of music/games.
virus scans don't pick up any of the keyloggers (malwarebytes/nod32/avlast)

    You can do 2 things:

    1) block thos users or

2.0) add them as contact and see if they scam you. If they do, report there steam profile so that valve guys can ban there steam accs.

Ah yeh and towards your "bypass steam guard": Its your PC, you install maleware on so steam guard dont pick it up.
If you find spelling errors, you are free to take them.

i would get an email if someone logged in on my account on a different computer, especially if a different country like russia...

      i didn't get any emails.
i did a fresh install and logged on the fist time i got an email telling to verify my identity.

yeah its my fault for the malware install.
BUT its everyday i get constant invites with fake links.

The invites are likely hacked accounts. I always report them for suspected phishing.

edit: a friend my said its a script that accepts all trades in the background
damn... wasn't expecting that one. so no one actully even logged on my account. LOL

Its not just you, the same thing is happening to me as well, except the messages are different every time. Also with everyone changing their name all the time, i dont even know who is who anymore. So i once clicked a link from someone who i thought is my real life friend and now i have lost all of my dota 2 items :/
I have made a steam support ticket and i hope it gets resolved, but it is really crazy that something like that can happen just by clicking a link!

With due respect wat Jan2011 is saying m not sure reporting them on steam even works or valve even cares coz there might be tens n thousands of reports everyday or perhaps even every hour... earlier when i started getting such messages ( note i started getting these messages only when i started trading on d2l ) i used to give a nickname to them n i religiously used to report them .. thinking valve would take some action ... but to avail .. later I realsied that valve doesnt take any action against such BOT's / People ( how ? coz when u have a nickname stored for a person its even visible after u remove them from your friend list , if valve did really care about their players they wud write back or send a message etc.. which has not happened even once ) coz i used to receive spams from the same BOT's after few odd days .. ( and their nickname was visible when u click on their profile )
the only best option that u have is to block them

stop trading on d2l and othersites & stop using autobumps etc..everything has a cost... there is no full proof system for them..
i wud suggest trade on dota-trade.com n join few trading groups on steam..
And if u want to cry about it saying no i still want to trade on d2l widout any drawbacks then maybe u shud write a personal greeting to Gabe

I havent got this a LOT Of times, but I did get one add from this guy claiming "my friend wants to trade with you but he cant add you, can you add him?"

Linking you to a webpage that looks exactly like an steam profile, showing some awesome items this dude supposedly has....and of course it has a fake login which for sure saves your username and password

I tried to login with the user

              User: fuckyounoob
              Pass: getyourownitems

And it sends you to the real steam page to make it look like you actually logged in...sadly the one I saw was a really well designed page...it has likely tricked more than a couple of people...
I wonder if the owner of that scam page tried that password? <.<
Make a NON automated report system.
I would rather wait 10 minutes for a balanced, fun and exciting match that will last 1+ hours. Than wait 10 seconds for a poorly balanced crapmatch that will end in 30- minutes
Valve, How I'm I supposed to respect certain boundaries to prevent a mute if I dont know them because they are different for each and every person on each and every game I play?

what was that in the last thread about, only brain dead low IQ ppl getting scammed and rightfully so? point is: it can happen to all of use and the only way to really stop this shit is:
                report them. block them.
If you find spelling errors, you are free to take them.

Well yeah I agree with that when the scams are stupid or obvious....sometimes people kind of have it coming, but this one as I said is pretty well made, particularly because valve's chat doesnt send a message saying THIS SITE IS NOT PART OF STEAM, CLICK HERE TO CONFIRM YOU WANT TO LEAVE STEAM. Which I think they should
