  • What kind of penalty should be given to verbally abusive players?

To celebrate the creation of this new forum section, here is a little poll for you! I've always said that flamers/verbally abusive players shouldn't get thrown in LPQ (like they used to months ago) for the simple fact that they aren't actually trolls... however, some people seem to disagree with me.

So... in ascending order of severity, what kind of penalty should be given to flamers? Feel free to select multiple choices!

Take note that this poll is only about the penalty and not the system used to judge players. For the sake of the poll, assume that the system put in place is perfect. You see a guy that constantly insults your mother in the chat, you report him... what should happen to him?

Valve disagrees with you. Their excuse for implementing this was that our toxic community turns away new players from the game.
We need a player review system like Overwatch for DotA 2. Get real people to judge communication abuse, intentional skill abuse, and intentional feeding.

Before, trashtalking players would get thrown in LPQ for an increasing amount of time. In that queue, they weren't affecting new players' game experience at all.

I voted for either no penalty or a mute penalty. Being someone muted often, the impact on the game for me and friends and absolutely detrimental to any attempts to play correctly - you basically may as well just give up playing for the period of your mute, which while the issue of verbal abuse SHOULD be punishable...have I ever actually ABUSED someone? Hell no have I!!! If people get butt hurt over asking them to buy wards - and I mean just GENERALLY asking them if they will buy wards, and I get the response "stfu" or just nothing at all...by asking them again and reminding them that they really should be the ward buyer - how the fuck does that make me the abuser? I did not report this player yet he clearly reported me and tada....muted again. Yes not my only "crime" in the game, but a pure example of how many of my past reports were more than likely utter bullshit. I have even seen people say i was reported, for winning the game....the system is broken, yet it still needs to be there.

I do not want to see people racially abusing, homophobia, death threats, obscene comments etc etc in my game. However if 2 guys are having a bit of an argument, simply because one/both of them want to WIN the game and the other simply does not (or doesnt know how to) - then I am totally fine with that. If your not? Mute button bro, solves all your issues. To eliminate people getting "falsely" muted they should simply follow the same path as LoL and allow people a few lines per x amount of mins to allow for critical communication to take place.

I would also have voted for account suspensions but under EXTREMELY limited situations. The problem I feel personally and see in other people is when you have a bad game, get mad, get reported...some people seem to go on this mini-rampage and are 110% more likely in the next game to get pissed off and rage even more, getting them more reports. It's a toxic circle. When a person reaches a certain amount of reports they should get a pop up (much akin to how you get pop ups thanking you for reporting other people) to inform you that you have had a significant number of communication reports.

Then you reach the threshold of the lowest mute punishment (24hrs? and when I say this mute period I mean under the situations outlined above where you can STILL say a few lines each game like in LoL). After this has happened I believe you currently need only a few more reports to get muted again, so after your first mute punishment each report you get should suspend your ability to join a ranked game for...lets say 15mins. Why? To give people time to chill, to make them realize that they have done something potentially wrong, reflect - go get a drink, have a smoke - then come back with a fresh mind as opposed to finishing the last game full of rage, hammering the find game button full of blood rage and getting yourself muted again (thus producing more rage lol).

Valve wants to "rehabilitate" ragers, so lets try and give them a hand and instead of constantly punishing them with harsh things like 148hr mutes, lets try and help them STOP getting to that rage state and becoming toxic to the community - and even toxic to themselves.

Literally the biggest issue in Dota 2 is everyone's apparent lack of willingness to work together, or listen to someone giving advice and trying to help you play your hero and role so everyone can win the game.

Not everyone is polite when they give this feedback but everyone needs some thicker skin. Sadly if you don't listen, don't learn, you will never get any better so just going to attract more rage!

It was said jokingly but I can see how you could not see this, what with the fact that we're on an internet forum and all.

However, it has never looked at your historical win rate and put you in a game where it knew that you were expected to lose.

I'd actually like to see people get some punishment on all of their games if you are a repeat offender. You know, the way VAC bans you from all VAC games if you are found to be a cheater. Should make people consider before doing stupid stuff.

Whats cheating got to do with reporting for comms abuse? Nothing. The amount of people actually cheating in Dota 2 could probably be counted on 1 hand - if you think otherwise then you are more than likely one of these people who cause so many people to be reported for comms abuse and thus muted simply because you do not have a clue. If you REALLY think I should not be able to play my Rolletcoaster Tycoon 3 game because I told you to "learn to fucking play" and you reported me then you are really really delusional.

**FYI**The above comment will offend and I am sincerely sorry about that, however if you are unable to read and understand a thread then prepare for people to point that out, and prepare to be butthurt about it - not my issue sorry.

^^ the above person was reported for having this opinion in life

Where's the option where "DON'T TRY TO FIX SOMETHING IF IT ISN'T BROKEN" or the option that can't be abused by people.

You know, your avatar gif is the perfect response from Valve about this mute system, "Deal with it".
