  • Is dragging a game out intentionally absuive?

If I want to punish another player, winning isn't enough, I want to farm until I have the very best items in the game, I could have pushed and ended a game, but dragging it out another 40 minutes is more fun. Is this kind of thinking abusive? If so, what should be done about it?

Sadistic more or less. There is no reliable system that could take care of that. The only thing close would be a surrender feature but it's been discussed and it's not being implemented.

Interesting method. You are playing last hit minigame, while someone you want to "punish" is alt-tabbed to do something else.

The problem is that it's hard to define what dragging out the game is a lot of the time.

Sometimes every lane on my team does really well and we get a bunch of kills so we start pushing to the base, but the enemy team defends and forces us back, so we go back to farming, and then the enemy complains that we're not pushing.

The reason for this is that the enemy team simultaneously wants to play the game (because sitting in the well and making sure you don't go AFK is boring) AND wants it to end.

But if you implement a surrender feature, then people might give up too easily in games where they still had a good chance of making a comeback.

A surrender feature will never be implemented as has been stated that they will never implement such a system, it's also on the "don't start topic about this" list.

          Ontopic:
Dragging out a game depends on what stare of the game you are.
If the enemy has megac-reeps then just stop defending, the creeps will finish the game eventually.
A lot of players don't do this for some reason, I've seen a 30 minute mega-creep game last for over 2 hours :S.
If it's before rax then it's a bit harder I suppose.

A game "dragging out" can occasionally be a good thing. When you know the enemy could've ended the game right there but didn't, that means they're making a strategic mistake. You can take advantage of that and punish the enemy team. This is why you see people make comebacks - these comebacks happen partly because the "winning" team failed at actually "winning the game" when they had the opportunity to do it.

A little anecdote from a LoL game I had a few years back: my team managed to destroy their base, kill all of their team and were about to destroy their Ancient. Instead of actually attacking the Ancient like I was doing, my teammates stayed next to the pool and started /dancing. Guess what happened? Team wipe, enemy rushed mid, destroyed our base before we could respawn. We had the victory but my team didn't take it. This is why you mustn't try to drag a game out just for the lulz.

you can get reported for any reason and if you used chat during the game, it will count towards a mute

That depends... is your makeup stronger late game than theirs? Stick it out and farm your asses off. Have wards to regain map control. If not, just AFK in fountain and let the megacreeps end the game for you. They can't pull those back.

But no, it's not abuse from them especially when you're part of that decision making process.

I've been in a lot of games where the enemy team dragged and ended up being annihilated by my team. So keep on dragging:P

you are playing the wrong game.
If your goal is to punish anyone or make anyone mad, your motivations to play this game are extremely low.

i still remember those dragged out games from dota1 as well as dota2 days where we made epic comebacks and lost super owned games so the more it drags the more are ur chances to win just never loose hope.

Nearly every time the enemy team screams "FF", and you walk up to take their barracks they don't let you take them but defend and try to kill your team. When they lose the next teamfight they gonna scream "FF fast"...
You shouldn't fall for this "Finish Fast", it also happens that the enemy team wants you to lure into feeling too powerful and attack without coution, so they have a comeback...
So if they keep defending while screaming "FF", use your map domination to farm your heros, to make the victory safe.

I even think it's the right punishment for teams that scream FF and defend to have a dragged out game. They created this side effect.
Just as spawn rape is the right punishment for feeder noob team. B-)

That's what is interesting, it doesn't matter if it was 1 noob feeder or 2, I get to punish 5 players and drag matches out and spawn camp till the cows come home.

Really? Kind of abusive? Why don't we start banning people for not doing what others want. Lets start banning for anything that irritates people.

Ok I'm usually the one killing the towers at the Ancient. But if the enemy heros walk out of their spawns and try to kill me, the fun is over! They want to get spawnkilled!
