  • Another mute system thread.

No, I'm not here to participate on the mute system discussion, I'm neutral to it. But I found a video recently discussing the subject and I want to share it with you guys, I hope it brings something new to the table.

Reply to this thread if you have something to say about the video and how it applies to dota. Otherwise stick with the thousands other threads about it.

I found a video about a subject that is being constantly discussed here on the forums and I posted here to share with anyone that is interested. What is wrong with that? The reason I don't go into this discussion is because I really don't care, I usually only play with a stack of friends and the mute system has literally 0 effect on me.

And yes I don't want to say anything because I have nothing to add and I do want to hear what people have to say about this. What is wrong with that?

I don't know why I even bothered to answer to such a comment.

The guy is commenting on immature people bullying other players. It is clear that there are these immature people playing DOTA 2 at the moment, and they are abusing the chat ban system to bully other players. That's about the size of it. Valve wants to punish those bullies but the bullies get to punish people, too.
I will mercilessly add to my ignore list anyone that makes an incredibly annoying signature.

That video doesn't seem to have anything to do with flawed implementation of automatic moderation in Dota 2. If you want to mute somebody, functionality is there. What to discuss?

Whoever made that video is so out of touch with gaming. What a complete idiot. Most of his ideas wouldn't work anyways. Especially the whole thing about rank.

Not to mention notice how all of those were sexist comments? Seems more like some girl crying.

How about everyone just learns to control their emotions and not cry so much about what some guy/girl said to you online? I feel like the people on here making suggestions like the guy in the video are thirteen.

You don't like the community? GREAT!

              Then leave.

If you really are that upset, but want to keep playing, use the INGAME MUTE FEATURE offered to you. If you really get upset about things like this, I think you should see a therapist, because you obviously have something wrong in your past that has made you overly sensitive to just about everything.

Valve doesn't like the community and they want to improve it, I guess they should leave their game?

The most common question we get is why we added the communication ban system when we already have an in-game muting system. Shouldn’t players who don’t like what they’re hearing just mute the speaker? Ignoring the side problems around some players not knowing about muting, and that the damage is often done before you know you should mute someone else, the real problem with the muting approach is that it doesn’t provide strong feedback to the speaker. Some of our earlier data showed us that offensive players can be rehabilitated and that they manage to modify their communication so that they don’t cause negative interactions. To be able to do that though, they need to know when they’re producing negative interactions, and the communication ban system lets them know this.

Valve should quit their current job and become therapists. They obviously care more about peoples' emotions than the actual game itself.

Video pretty much expresses the same sentiments as the blog post from Valve regarding the mute system. Nothing to discuss there.

I really like the idea that players who get mute by the in-game button very often get automuted in following games. You could then unmute them with the same button. Current report system is broken and wrong and should be removed or replaced immediately.

Didn't know the community isn't part of the game, without us, there's no Dota 2, the community is a priority.

To look at it from a different perspective Valve is selling it's product and then instead of modifying it to your liking or to be more compatible with you (whatever), it's trying to make you compatible with it.

good video (apart from the editing).
especially the last sequence is something that seems to be long forgotten.
