  • The Good, the Bad, the Ugly.

First of I'd like to say that the much maligned and misunderstood chat ban system is great. I prefer playing dota secure in the knowledge that every I won't be verbally abused for every little mistake I make. I think the report system works well since gang reports don't count and that it tries to look for a pattern of behaviour before chat banning someone. For what it's worth I've never been chat banned but I have been in low priority due to abandoned games. This leads me to the 'Bad'. The matchmaking system matches me with terrible players. I'm the sort of player who can regularly get a first blood on pudge with storm spirit given mid, and I did this 3 games in a row. One of those games was a win but the other 2 were loses because of the poor laning by my team. All I ask is that they hold their lane for more than 10 minutes and not feed. Now in these sort of games, where someone feeds and the game stops being competitive and evenly balanced, I will abandon. This is contrary to valve's position on why players abandon. Their blog post states that people abandon due to communication abuse but in my case I've never abandoned because of that. I abandon when people feed. This means that I go into low priority, which I used to dislike, but I've grown to dislike playing bad games more than waiting a day in low priority, so I take the hit and wait it out in lp. Overtime I'll probably abandon more games if people feed and play less dota because my account will be in low prio and I can't be bothered wasting time in the que, which means I'll play other games. Eventually there will come a point where I'll be in low priority for a few days and I'll forget to want to play Dota and I'll play another game instead. This problem wouldn't exist if the matchmaking was better.

    Stop spreading misinformation.

The blog was about an old iteration of the mute system which supposedly did the things listed.

From the tests done by players on these forums, these statements are shown to be blatantly false.
Over 300 major bugs. The Ancient BD 'feature.' Mute System: win rate directly correlated to amount of muted players on each team.
Developers have no backbone or heart, consistently browse threads about controversial topics awaiting a developer reply, never answer.
It couldn't get any worse. Valve should be given the benefit of a doubt?
    I was wrong. Quickcast.

I'm sure many people have *Just like me* told their stories about being 'Ganged' up on for being muted or in Low Prio.

I know I was several times, are you shitting me here sashang? I get ganged up on ALL the time and JUST did about an hour ago because people on the other team were fed up with losing in a Captains Mode game.

I'm refering to this post here: http://blog.dota2.com/2013/05/communication-reports/ which explicitly states:

"Multiple people ganging up on you to report you in the same game has no effect on whether or not you are banned. We are looking at patterns of behavior over time only."

If you have better information (i.e. an official source) that contradicts the above post please share it. You and your friends posts whining posts about how you were chat banned after saying something in 1 game don't qualify as evidence.

This player report confirms that gang reporting does not work: http://dev.dota2.com/showthread.php?t=95863

            And..... a problem.

I think you have misunderstood Valve. They were looking at reasons why people leave Dota and don't come back. Not why they quit the current game.

Speaking personally, I would rather that the people who abandon games not play.

The matchmaker also will raise your Elo and try to put you in players of equivalent skill, which indirectly tries to get the win rate to 50%. However, it has never looked at your historical win rate and put you in a game where it knew that you were expected to lose.
Is every post on this forum about the Dunning-Kruger effect?

Fair enough. I don't want to abandon but I feel forced to sometimes because the team feeds and is steam rolled. I'm not going to stick around in a game where our Warlock is lvl 6 at 20mins. I enjoy playing the game if I feel it is an evenly matched contest. I don't mind losing in those scenarios, and still enjoy it, but it has to be an even contest. For me the poor matchmaking and lack of a way to abandon that doesn't penalize you is a reason enough for me to leave the game permanently. If Valve want to keep players like me playing then 1) fix the matchmaking so that games are more competitive or 2) assuming that they can't fix 1 then make abandoning an option without a penalty. They could do this if the game stats reveal a game that's becoming too one sided. Even pro-gamers effectively abandon games. Watch some replays and you'll see them abandoning when they realize that their team is being steamrolled.

No one wants to play with leavers. Just uninstall dota2. No one will miss you. Period.
                Remove mute system NOW
If someone's feelings are hurt, he can already mute the offending player with 2 clicks.
Auto mute will be this game's downfall if it stays.

So you'd rather I just stood in the fountain and occasionally moved around? That way I don't leave the game and you get to play with someone that doesn't leave the game. I'm sure you'd be happy with that.
