I remember many years ago when I played Halo, and other games, that in Matchmaking, there were usually advanced options to make matchmaking better. Here are two implementations I would like to see eventually included into the game, to solve multiple problems preventing many from having an overall good Dota experience.
→ Friendly/Rowdy Chat/Communication Option --
For those who believe Dota should be clean, pristine, and with no criticism or flaming etc. all, This matchmaking setting would allow those who want a peaceful game, with no swearing, flaming, barking orders, criticism. Although the game is currently unrated (with the exception of some of QoP's lines...
) , if it were to accommodate younger players i.e. if it was rated E10+ or T, this would also be a nice option to keep it clean for the kids.
For those who can take criticism, don't mind it or flaming, and don't want to have to worry about being muted for pointing out that the support is taking all my last hits, or "Hey, please stop intentionally killstealing me at every chance", or, just an environment where a wayward f-bomb won't send someone into an emotionally triggered nervous breakdown, the "rowdy" or "adult" would allow for a more unregulated experience, with communication bans only existing for Nonstop pinging, mic/chat spamming, etc.
I believe that these options would all but end the war completely between the pro and against mute ban supporters, and almost create an opt-in/opt-out environment on whether or not they want to be in environment where the mute system works on general talking/frustration/flaming.
→If not already implemented passively, add a fast networking option to matchmaking, and make it a selectable option. I believe this would solve the following problems:
-Ever have one of those games where someone is lagging extremely on the other team? As in I have a shadow blade, and although it has been active for a good 1-1.25 seconds, they are still able to use a point target ability on me, due to the fact that I hadn't turned invisible yet on their screen, and I'm 100% certain they didn't have true sight? Possibly another time where ability x had no effect on enemy a and they killed you while your x registered? And to add insult to injury, 30 seconds later they say "Holy S***! My ping is 768!" This is lag friends, and is cause generally by one of two things in the dota-verse;
1. Client side i.e. horrible isp; slow PC/network card etc.
2. Player in wrong server i.e. Russian in U.S. west; Brazilian in Europe East, etc.
I believe that adding a 'Fast Connection" matchmaking option would solve, or at the very least improve and lessen the appearance of the above 2 situations. This system would take the lowest ping of those in the matchmaking pool with other similar settings and try to pair them up before expanding to higher pings. This would almost automatically solve the first situation interfering with those with blazing internet speeds, and in the case of the second scenario, I shall make a quick example.
If there are 10 Americans, mostly in the eastern parts of the states, matchmaking in a U.S. east server, and 5 Russians searching also in U.S. east (for god knows why, but we all know they do) given that they all have equal, decent internet connections, the Americans will have a median ping of about 50-100, while the Russians being on the other side of the world would have a ping of approximately 300-600. The people in the U.S. would then all be put together, and communication would occur with no language barriers, even if the Russians choose to come to U.S. servers
Also possibly passively or actively include an option that will try to match all pings to similar ones, such as 150 and 200 pingers would be together with each other instead of with a 500 and 50?
Remember, all of my examples are in a perfect world, and of course these suggestions are open to change; i.e. "What if Iw ant to casually swear but no flame and want the mute system still on?" I dunno, maybe an intermediate, or other 3rd option? Please give feedback on this; it seems like the only semi-peaceful way to solve many problems without offending too many.
