  • Tutorial for every hero.

Just a little idea that there should be a tutorial for every hero using his background story. I have idea on half or more heroes little example: Nightstalker whole map is in night and you are hunting - animals, creeps, humans then day starts and you became weakened. You will have to farm some items including aghanim and fight several "heroes", to defeat these heroes you will have to use silence, miss, slow and aghanim+gem. During day phases you will be chased. This will show you what your abilities can do and how to get biggest profit from your night powers. Natures prophet small base somewhere in woods, there will appear points on your map you will have to teleport there and use sprout to plant trees. Later your base will became under attack and you will have to port around and use your treants to def and push. During this you will farm xp and gold. There will be also several heroes something similar to ogre from wraith-night you will have to sprout him so he wont hit you in melee, another hero can be something with tinkers march of machines where you will have to use wall with your treants so you can get close to him. Dragon knight - farming and in the end you will fight big dragon. Shredder cutting thousands of trees in chase of something, getting from AoE spells and over destroyed bridges with your hook. Medusa showing how to use splitshot, snake spell to deal the biggest dmg to target you want. Etc etc etc. It will be really hard and will take a lot of time.

It is like a Lore Quest or something like that, but it is too painful (and costly without any benefit) for Valve. Though, when Valve releases custom map option, mapmakers can do that.

Lazyness. Not to mention the lack of bugfixes, and the amount of new ones with each new content added

That is what I fear, that they end up to that solution.

Sounds like pretty good idea. But I don't think it is possible for some heroes, to get known through a tutorial. Dota 2 is a very situational game. Then again, a basic level of understanding, would help in some situations. Overall a great idea, assuming it can be executed right.

Because if they create a custom map option, people will create so ridiculous stuffs and the game's quality decreases as f***.

However, tutorial for EVERY hero(which means 105 hero) would be painful. And you are talking about maps in EACH heroes lores which means 50-60(estimated) maps. And what would be Valve's benefit? Hmm, nothing.

But, if there was different maps(such as Bleeding Hills and Slithereen Sea) for different game modes, that'd be great i agree. Maybe DOTA is actually the game's map's name but should it mean there shouldn't be another maps? Seriously? Why?..

You do realise that you're not forced to play any of these ridiculous stuff, don't you?

you don't need a separate map for each addon. And luckily valve is smart enough to see the value in free content added to the game.

That is a pretty ironical statement, given that Dota was create as a custom map for WC3

Well, WC3 did take one hell of a hit when DotA became popular - the ladder, anyway. Thousands of people only knew WC3 as the platform for DotA, and that is in no way a good thing for the game. So the point stands and I agree with it, but there's nothing to be done, we can't hope to expect anything of proper quality to come out. And story-wise - have you read the asinine concoction of gorilla ass that the lore for DotA 1 was? Be glad if you haven't. Some people actually read it and took it seriously. Some still do.

If somebody does end up making backstory-related tutorials that make at least a nick of sense in the world and aren't just "har har im so fani need moar reference oppa dendi style" then they won't be able to make those for all heroes. That, or I'll wake up.
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

"Tutorial for every hero." --- Dream on.
Maybe if the players were the ones making them... maybe then we could have some... but by Valve? with it's 19 Employees? No chance in 5 years.

I think the potential for decent player-made tutorials is there, especially if designers collaborate with writers

I like learning the lore behind a game but for a genre like DotA (or LoL, for that matter) game mechanics are more important than a deep lore. If I want a fantastic background story I settle for other games. I partially agree with you that Dota 2 does its lore job better than WC3 Dota, not because the background stories are any better (they are often just as retarded/random as for WC3) but because a lot of heroes reference each others' lores. And that's still way better than anything League of Legends has to offer. I read the Teemo lore once and sometimes I still wake up at night, screaming.

So given the fact that I wouldn't bet a dime on Valve creating story-related tutorials for every hero the only real hope we got is the community. Maybe there will evolve a small circle of artists who will focus on creating high-quality, lore-related content as the SDK is released. Just like this or this one.

I think it's way too early to shun the whole idea of community-created tutorials altogether. I agree, there will be truly shitty tutorials but just like for the workshop good quality will ultimately succeed (well, at least in most of the cases).
