Who, or what character is the default announcer?

  • Who, or what character is the default announcer?

    In tf2 the announcer is the administrator, playing an active role story wise;
    in dota 2, what is the role of the announcer? Is she a narrator, a prophet? Or a former hero?
    What kind of relation she has to the two ancients, since she can talk to the two teams?

    I am willing to assume that she might be the voice that both Ancients use as their official representative. The one that brainwashes the heroes and so on.
    Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

      I don't think Dota announcers are part of the lore. How do you explain Lina and especially Pyrion Flax commentating the match? Maybe if Valve also made the announcers follow a strict guideline like cosmetics then I would believe that the announcers are part of the Dota universe.

        Well, yeah, that's also a point I was going to bring up. The cosmetic announcers don't count as part of the story, but the default one is, well, default. It's always there and it can't be removed. That means that it might be a character in the world, at least mentioned in passing.

        The others, though... I had a theory or two, but when the atrocity that is PFlax came out, they all fell apart.

          I don't think announcers should fit the lore somehow.
          Announcers are game announces. It's just like wanting to *loretize* the kills streaks.
          Do you actually imagine some ultra deep voice shouting "dob-triple ki- unstoppab- Rampage!" from the sky as you kill the other team? Well, you don't also want to think about flying cameras and hud screens.

          Player UI should not be bound to lore. Imho.

            I'm pretty sure the interchangeable nature of the Announcer makes it not connected to the lore at all. If it was, how would you connect the killstreak Announcer then? That's just the Quake Announcer, after all. It's like asking what the HUDs mean in the lore.

                    The Mega Kill announcer is the Dire's Ancient, and the normal announcer is the Radiant's Ancient.

                    Said normal announcer also share Naga's and TA's voice, so...
