  • The effects of censorship and their implications on both aesthetics and influence

Greetings dota 2 community, today i would like to talk something that has catched my attention. As you may have noticed China has very specific rules regarding both blood and bones, heroes that posses this aforementioned qualities are supplied with a different model from the original, for example bloodless pudge: http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/dota...e-portrait.jpg or pugna with a mask
http://hydra-media.cursecdn.com/dota...na-topicon.png , these changes are only visible to clients on the aforementioned regions BUT some of them are made permanent, for example the change on the Dire logo http://dota2.gamepedia.com/File:Team_logo_dire_old.png or completely removing the skull on the new Nevermore model, yes i am aware the model was old but the skull could have stayed being in my opinion among the greatest parts of the model, this kind of censorship is what is preventing some well made items to get into the game just like the famous ward: http://i.ytimg.com/vi/tj5vYKbkgU8/hqdefault.jpg skull or "different" kinds of sets http://cdn.dota2.com/apps/570/icons/...40e1b39283.png (Just to not say bad), i am afraid this censorship is holding some dota features back, might be a reason to both change future models or completely start adapting dota into something more suitable for them how would you react if they made boneless clinkz? completely rework bloodseeker lore abilities and name? slowly loose blood effects. give winter wyvern (bone dragon) model a skin?

League of Legends chinese client is completely separated, they have different available skins and are only available to purchase, my petition is to completely separate both clients while they get to keep their items and future Nexon items are omnly available on that region.

Why it would be a change for the good:

Benefits: CONTENT CREATORS: This change would allow content creators to act more freely with their sets, wards, couriers

Benefits: US: Having a different client it would solve some communication issues for both sides between us, the creators and who manages Dota in the region (Valve, Nexon, Perfect World, Etc)

Benefits: THEM: As you may have noticed they have... different tastes that may or may not seem good to us, they could choose what gets into their game and adding their own signature (Nexon only available items and trophies)

Benefits: ME: This would make me very happy

Thanks for your attention Dota 2 community i hope to get constructive critics leading to an agreement ready for Valve to listen.

The forum isn't as lively as it used to be it seems.

I think that you're overreacting a little bit. SK was changed because of Diablo copyright (the official statement was never released, but I guess that's the reason) while Nevermore had his model improved, with his head losing some features of a skull, but still retaining obvious depictions of skulls in his skill icons. As for the proposed change, isn't what you propose more or less the current state of the game?

We can make the skull and bones really funny.

That would make a sweet Arcana.

That is NOT well made. I made better 3D models as homework in Uni :/

Where do you see any bones here?

how would you react if they made boneless clinkz?
Clinkz model is crap. Rework can lose the bones if he looks good for all I care.

give winter wyvern (bone dragon) model a skin?
Hello, that was W3 DotA, there are no bone dragons in DotA 2. Valve can make Ice Dragon and there will be no difference.

For all of 3 heroes that might benefit from it? Nope, that would be far too much work and would kill TIs (which client would be used and what about protests of players fighting unfamiliar models?) for miniscule to no benefit. Case sadly closed.
