  • Ogre Magi (Valve Lore)

The ordinary ogre is the creature for whom the phrase 'As dumb as a bag of rock hammers' was coined. In his natural state, an ogre is supremely incapable of doing or deciding anything. Clothed in dirt, he sometimes finds himself accidentally draped in animal skins after eating lanekill. Not an especially social creature, he is most often found affectionately consorting with the boulders or tree-stumps he has mistaken for kin (a factor that may explain the ogre's low rate of reproduction). However, once every generation or so, the ogre race is blessed with the birth of a two-headed Ogre Magi, who is immediately given the traditional name of Aggron Stonebreak, the name of the first and perhaps only wise ogre in their line's history. With two heads, Ogre Magi finds it possible to function at a level most other creatures manage with one. And while the Ogre Magi will win no debates (even with itself), it is graced with a divine quality known as Dumb Luck--a propensity for serendipitous strokes of fortune which have allowed the ogre race to flourish in spite of enemies, harsh weather, and an inability to feed itself. It's as if the Goddess of Luck, filled with pity for the sadly inept species, has taken Ogre Magi under her wing. And who could blame her? Poor things.

I'm not actually bothered by how whimsical he is, though I feel like the last few sentences were laying it a bit too thick there if you get what I mean.

I'm not a fan, actually. His lines suggested that the two were at one pointed merged into one and are, in fact, trying to find a way to separate themselves - a concept which I really liked at first. And, really, there are Ogre Magi on the battlefield already - those creepy blue creatures in the neutral caps, though I'm sure they will be renamed (Magi is plural for Magus, and those only have one head for Josh's sake).

It also makes Alchemist's ogre look like a genius mastermind according to this lore; or this lore like a big, big exagerration.
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

Welllll, I must agree with 1337, I don't particularly like this one... With the same idea that they got stuck together, I'd actually done a lore for him, then kinda gave up on it since I knew that ogre was soon to be released and probably already had a lore... But now, I'm almost tempted to put it on anyway^^
        Everyone has a story.

          What about

"... However, once every generation or so, the ogre race is blessed with the birth of a seemingly brilliant Ogre Magi, who is immediately given the traditional name of Aggron Stonebreak, the name of the first and perhaps only wise ogre in their line's history.
          [new lore]
While being the smartest of their kind, the Ogre Magi still were just one step ahead of ordinary ogres - with the exception of the original Aggron Stonebreak of course. They were a mere Shimmer of Hope of an otherwise shallow species. The latest of their kin, the Ogre Magi at hand, however fancied a double headed appearance.

Well, whet my stones, this actually fixes some problems this lore has. It gives our hero at least some individuality which he currently doesn't have a whole lot of... Yeah, I'd approve.

It's still not very clear what is the deal with the Alchemists' ogre. He seems quite sentient and reasonable, fully able to understand Razzil's orders and even keep up a conversation.

            Chemicals?
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

Maybe razzil has a good influence on him.

Just let Alchemists mount be the original Aggron Stonebreak, who travelled far from his kind to see new lands and meet new peoples and then got befriended / caught by a brilliant but also slightly crazy alchemist.

wasnt entirely happy with my suggestion yet, here is the updated version. Changes to the valve lore are bold.

However, once every generation or so, the ogre race is blessed with the birth of a freakish blue-skinned Offspring. Those exceptional beings, surprise with uncalled talent of Invokation, meriting them with the title Ogre Magi. Each Ogre Magi, who is immediately given the traditional name of Aggron Stonebreak, the name of the first and perhaps only wise ogre in their line's history. While being the smartest among their kin, the Ogre Magi still were just one step ahead of ordinary ogres - with the exception of the original Aggron Stonebreak of course. They were a mere Shimmer of Hope of an otherwise shallow species. The latest of their kind, the Ogre Magi at hand, however fancied a double headed appearance.

It doesn't seem like Ogre Magi has blue skin; he just painted himself blue. At least that's what it looks like in this image.

so a twoheaded ogre magi is not able to paint his whole body, but this guy is?

You're....confusing me man. Your edit said all the ogre magi are born blue. I was saying it looked like Ogre Magi the hero painted himself blue.
