I think that when we read this we think that we are those who killed his family. Maybe it would be better if you'll write that he is on his way to revenge and kill everyone on his road, even friends. Or the madness of vengeance has made him unsensible to another and all he wants - is revenge and victory!

            That is Vengeful Spirit's story.

I think the story is great, but I have one criticism. I don't think you should tie abilities into the lore text too much; to me, it just makes it a little bit cheesy. The whole invisibility thing is fine because it's essential for the story and it's what "makes" Rikimaru. I don't think you should have included the "smoke" and "silences enemies", though.

edit: Oh, darkrogue said the same thing... so it's not just me.

Rikimaru is a character from the game Tenchu: Stealth Assassins (1998). Valve is probably trying to avoid any possible copyright infringement as possible by changing the name to Riki.

                Here's the original Stealth Assassin:

I don't like this story a lot =/... A lot of forced lore (with the whole being invisible thing)... He also doesnt seem like the royal type. Royalty tends to walk up straight and... I dont know, he just doesnt fit it. He seems more like a trickster (with his smile (oh and he also looks to happy to be on a quest for revenge =/)). Don't know... But the current lore just doesn't fit him in my opinion =/

How about he rather was a preferred warrior of Kings to execute their rival leaders and a trophy favourite of Tahlin Ruler, until one day a rival of Tahlin Dynasty hired him to kill the ruler of his own race.
Upon the act, which turned successful, Riki was maimed for the first time and despite the success, he was heavily wounded to remember the incident when his body washed ashore in the darkest woods where a clan of the Exiled greeted him as a brother. Due lust of the shadows, Riki now wanders the Ancient Lands for gaining power against the people of his past.

What I liked about this piece of lore is that it strives to be different from others. While some go about relentlessly pursuing power and others gain their power through some form of pacts or agreements, Riki obtains his power by force of nature - he simply groomed his powers through his environment. That is something I appreciate quite a bit.

However, the opinions that he doesn't seem very lordly is appropriate, and the fact is that he shouldn't care very much about the Tahlin empire, not enough to obtain revenge, since the start of the lore portrays him as somewhat apathetic. I think the personality conflict could be worked upon a bit; perhaps give him a reason for fighting.
