  • Goblin Shredder Lore Concept

This is my attempt at lore for the Goblin Shredder. I am not quite sure if Goblin is still okay, considering most were replaced by Keen, though that inadvertently inspired this particular piece of work. Enjoy and critique:

The people known as the Keen are well known for their ingenuity and craftsmanship. What they lack in strength and size, they more than make up for with their powerful weapons and machines. Naturally, the Keen are quite defensive of their creations, and attempts to steal Keen technology is typically met with the stolen goods self destructing in the poor non-Keen's face. Such was the case of a goblin thief named Rizzrack, who time and again stole from the Keen, and each time grew increasingly frustrated when the machines destroyed themselves. Now typically, a goblin thief would just give up and try to steal from some other victim, but not Rizzrack; He realized he was going about stealing from the Keen all wrong. He started to steal their research. Their books, their models, and their blueprints alike, and he forced himself to learn the Keen tongue and solve their puzzles that protected their secrets. The Keen destroyed all their manuscripts, and determined to commit all their knowledge to memory. This was fine for Rizzrack; He got what he had wanted. With Keen aggressively hunting him for their stolen knowledge, Rizzrack gathered together the pieces and parts, and created the ultimate money maker: A mechanized machine that could level entire forests in half the time it took loggers. The Keen still hunt Rizzrack, but now with care. For even they admit, none are quite so clever as the one they now call "The Goblin Shredder."

Yeah, Blizzard cant sue this... ufff.
Nice lore overall, but making Rizzrack a Keen would make the lore easier, because the Keen are most likely to build the machine, but if Valve decides to say as Rizz as a goblin, then this lore will do.

Well the reason I made him a goblin was because of how many Keen there already are. I mean, we got Clockwerk, Tinker, Sniper, Gyrocopter, and possibly Alchemist. I feel an actual goblin as the Goblin Shredder would add much needed diversity to the tech-savy hero roster

Whawhat, you mean Blizzard have claimed the copyright for the entire goblin race while I wasn't looking?

Damn, I really SHOULD be looking.

Regarding the story, though, the twist about the Keen now relying solely on memory pops out of nowhere and hardly fits, and...

Really, it needs to have something to do with trees, one sentence is not enough.
Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

You have too many instances of the word Keen in your story, I know they are hard to get rid off, but you need to work around that (using they, or The Folk, or some other variant)
            Everyone has a story.

I like the basic idea - Rizzrak steals from the Keen Folk. If concept art is to be believed the Techies are going to be goblins, so I don't see why Rizzrak can't be either. If this is the case, why not make it so that the goblins are subservient to the Keen Folk? I can imagine the Keen forcing goblins to mine ores and cut down trees for lumber, which could lead us into potential lore for Techies as well - perhaps the three are members of a demolition squad with a 100% casualty rate, and ran away? And perhaps Rizzrak was a lowly wood-cutter until he decided to rebel? It also introduces an aspect to the crazy old Keen Folk that we haven't seen before - that of them being cruel, cold and emotionally detatched taskmasters to their green slaves.

I have taken all feedback into consideration and made this new draft. Tweaking the ending, and toning down the admittedly excessive use of the word "Keen". Here you go:

The people known as the Keen are well known for their ingenuity and craftsmanship. What they lack in strength and size, they more than make up for with their powerful weapons and machines. Naturally, they are quite defensive of their creations, and attempts to steal their technology is typically met with the stolen goods self destructing in the poor non-Keen's face. Such was the case of a goblin thief named Rizzrack, who time and again stole from them, and each time grew increasingly frustrated when the machines destroyed themselves. Now typically, a goblin thief would just give up and try to steal from some other victim, but not Rizzrack; He realized he was going about stealing from the Keenfolk all wrong. He started to steal their research. Their books, their models, and their blueprints alike, and he forced himself to learn their tongue and solve their puzzles that protected their secrets. The Keenfolk grew wise of this thievery, and were furious. They sent legions of their finest mechanized warriors and marksmen to track down the goblin who now knew too much. With Keen aggressively hunting him for their stolen knowledge, Rizzrack retreated deep into forests, hunters fast on his trail. For days, the Keen received no word from their men, and when they sent more to the woods, they were shocked with what they had to say. The entire forest had been leveled, each tree cut and gone, and neither Rizzrack, nor the Keen hunters could be found among the stumps. Rizzrack rested with his new device on a nearby hill, delighted he had lost the hunters' trail and fooled the so-called brilliant Keenfolk once more. With his quest for knowledge complete, he took on his next: A quest for gold and glory.

I was thinking Goblin Shredder literally shreds forest goblins, explaining his skillset, which could turn into a good rivalry for Techies(Techies trying to destroy his machines while Shredder hunts them down)

No, his skillset revolves around the fact he made money by chopping down trees with his mech suit, hence the emphasis on deforestation in this fan made lore
