  • Why it makes no sense that players cannot abandon a game

When I was watching the International, the shortest game was less than 15 minutes. It was Navi and Alliance I think or Navi and Orange. I think it was Navi was getting beat down a bit and one of them typed gg after about 12 minutes. Bang. The game was over. Now, if I join a team in public matchmaking and we are going to lose there is no forfiet without punshment. A game is often over after about 2 minutes because everybody expects games with people they don't want to play with and start with the stress stress stress before five minutes. It goes on for almost an hour after that. An hour of wondering why you are even looking at the thing. How is that related to fun gameplay? It's not. It just makes a load of angry internet trolls out of people who just want to play a game. Dota should avoid like a plague making those games as memorable as fun or intense matches. Unless you want all these millions of people to hate each other for by. There should be a way to forfiet a game rather than be chained to it. Dota says in game that it will spoil the game for other players. And hating each other won't.

Shitty people are going to be shitty regardless. I play every match, no matter how one-sided it is, to the best of my ability. I have not become a troll, flamer, rager, etc.

Having a forfeit option is too easily abused by players that are ragers, flamers, and idiots to begin with. As it is we have far too many leavers and afkers in the community. This would just legitimize that kind of behavior.

there is a concede option. if everyone on your team leaves within 5 mins without abandoning, the game will end and no one will get an abandon

Conceding works in pro games because the players are part of the top 1% meaning they actually know when they've lost all chances to win. Regular players however don't have the game knowledge/experience to know when they can still win. Not only that but since your opponents aren't pro players either, sometimes they just fail to end the game when they have the chance therefore allowing your team to come back from a seemingly unwinnable situation. After all, if the game lasts for long enough, everyone's gonna be 6-slotted even if the score is 15-60.

Also... some people forget that the goal of the game is to destroy the Ancient.

So should the top 1% of players (based on MMR) be able to concede?

No one should be making the choice for the players, except they themselves.

Take a look at the Concede link on my signature and you'll find your answer.

What Bleako said plus the fact that in tournaments people are playing for big money. If they are willing to forfeit, I'm sure they have exhausted every other option. In pub games you are not playing for 10 000$ first place, so you can never be sure, if your random teammate is spamming the concede option, because he has to be somewhere else in 10 minutes, he died 3 times 1v1 in the laning phase, or something else.

Even completely new players can surrender, in a normal game.
