its always nice to see the 2 "factions" clash

1 faction is be like 2we dont want involvement from volvo" and the other one is like "we need more involvement from volvo"

Just a disclaimer up front: i have no future knowledge than anyone else has so most of what i say now is speculations.

With that being said, what i wonder is: Did this whole james thing happen because some one from china that has a say went "yo not cool what james did. Axe him or this event will be over soon" or was it more with poor judgment of the whole situation?

Also what i wonder is: Did nobody inside valve layed out the whole event, whats needed who to invite for what, what role certasint people have etc pp? because we saw a whole lot of things that either didnt work, went broken or flat out refused to work the way it is supose to work. (PC crashes, awkward camera positionings, mics that were muted, awful mic qualety inside the game, apparently no securety personal to have restricted areas so fans just went to teams and disrupted them during chill out time and the list goes on and on and on. )

In fact i am gona state it: This event was the worst display of a major tournament with a lot of money on the line since the games release. Yes there were tournaments earlier in the live time of dota2 that were objectively worse than this major but thos didnt had the same "steaks" at play as this (venue, money, teams etc pp)

And yes i am also gona state, that the "chasing after normal sports broadcasting" might be the worst thing e-sports can actually strive for. in fact, why chase a basically dead medium (yes who here watches sports events these days if YT and netflix and co can give you a run down of it in less time than ever?)

and while i´m on the complain train: were are the vods on the YT channel of dota2? majors are over and not a single one of the matches is on it yet, as well as the fact that soon 20+ matches might be posted to youtube spamming anyone that is a subscriber to that YT channel. Also highlight videos? team introduction videos? interviews? nothing there. The last video on the official dota2 YT channel is the winner of ti5 video from 3 months ago. since then, nothing. not even a "sneak peak" at "behind the scene" as we got from (i think it was ti3) how things starts to being build up etc pp.

come to speak up build up: social media pressent was lackluster as far as i am aware of (besides the tweets at the start with the blog post and the end with the winner (i posted about) there were no photos with fans, nor pics or gifs that would tell a fan and or some one that would care "hej this is going on", just 1 tweet like "hej this starts link" and "hej this is now over <won>" from an account on twitter with ~450+k people following, its a lack luster display. (cant speak about what happened on FB or instandgram since i neither want or care to have acc´s there)

Overall, the impression i think most people got from this event was a sour one. And the whole james drama in the end might just be, 2 and or 3 egos trying to not butch an inch and try to resolve an issue behind closed doors like adults. Who knows, i dont dota2 community dont and so we are left (as a community) with a tournament not living up to its "western standards"

ps: if some one thinks, i dont give a s-, i actually do and thats why i even made the effort to post this to get a debate started.

pss.: i left out PRO players impression since they are a) not yet home and b) impressions might vary on a person per person and team per team bases

My guess: it's a personal thing between Yames and Valve.
We need a player review system like Overwatch for DotA 2. Get real people to judge communication abuse, intentional skill abuse, and intentional feeding.

*Between Yames and Alireza Razmpoosh from what we can see from Yames' post. Apparently they got into some conflicts and Ali wanted Yames off the event. And Valve of course rather listen to a long-time employee of theirs rather than a really minor part of the community (because 95% of the community just doesn't give a shit about esports figures).

There's nothing wrong with Valve firing Yames. What's wrong is

              1. airing out dirty laundry when it does not add anything to the situation. Let me be clear, sometimes you can't keep things private, like when it comes to whistleblowing. But this ain't whistleblowing. When you're firing someone, the professional thing to do is to say that you are parting ways over differences. (Ironic that Valve faulted Yames' over professionalism.)

              2. not accepting full responsibility for the situation. Sure, on paper, Valve has a "no bosses" organization, and Yames isn't a Valve employee, but really, in the end, there are bosses. Gaben partially blamed it on "Valve people [who] lobbied to bring him back." He should have accepted full responsibility instead of just saying "that was a mistake," which sounds like, "it was a mistake that I listened to Bruno."

              and related to 2 is

              3. hiring Yames in the first place. I know Valve is bad at it, but can we have some fucking common sense here? If you've had "issues" with someone in the past, and a senior employee really doesn't like that someone, Jesus, don't hire the person again! Or at least, if you're going to hire him because another employee lobbied for him, don't have the employee who doesn't like him be the supervisor. Get a neutral third party.

                >complain about caster being "un-professional"
                >fire him with a claim that he is an ass (weather or not thats true or not is for the observer to decide)

difference is, yames isnt in a position where he can allow himself to be unprofessional. gaben is.

counter point being, that people outside of this whole dota2 drama get to know yames because the CEO of a major gaming development house called him an ass.
