  • Why should hidden pools be reset? People go there for a reason.

    Comment

    • I think he means the hidden unranked MMR that highly influences your ranked MMR when calibrating. It just stayed the same and people who recalibrated got the same MMR they originally got, or something very similar 98% of the times.

          Sounds perfectly reasonable.
It would be easier and faster to just alter the database entry of the given account.

              • Think of it this way.

                If we had MMR resets.

How well would "international compendium mmr" really sell for?

Might as well just make a consumable in the game shop that costs $1 and increases your mmr by 100

Take a look into the mirror! You think you are completely unfailable. With your limited knowledge, you think that you know more than someone who is very deep in the matter/an expert.

                  • The appeal of MMR resets is that people are either too stupid or too arrogant to realise that they actually belong in the bracket they're in. Giving them an opportunity to try (and fail) to prove they really have a 7K pro in them is not only lucrative, it's also fun.

Yes, which is why I don't understand, why they're not doing it.

                        Of course.
What about people who have reached a high MMR by getting carried, being lucky or just boosted and just barely hold themselves there? I have never reached high MMR in Dota 2, but I have reached the upper Diamond divisions in LoL. Mostly because I got carried by a friend there. The thing is, I managed to hold it for some time, but I was clearly inferior in skill. I was just not doing stupid shit. When the MMR was reset, I could barely reach the lower platinum divisions, which is where my skill cap was. There is absolutely no reason for MMRs to never be reset. There is no argument against it. If you are shit, you will still be shit after the reset. And if you are good, you will still be good after it, and climb back to where you belong. This keeps things fresh, and makes things for boosters harder. It should be an obligation of every developer who has a game with ladders and such.

                        • Maybe mmr resets are useful for people who have terrible internet and lose matches because of it. That's really the only legitimate use for them in my opinion.

So if you take a year off and return to the game you'll be still the same MMR, even if there was a new patch and you don't know shit about it?

Also, someone's making a Visage set, looks not-shit, preparing some market money to get it when it's live.

                            • I'm confused. Are you saying that's another legit reason for mmr resets or...?

                              • The most legit reason mmr resets is that there are no legit reasons for them not existing, plain and simple.
