You conveniently ignore the other side of the coin. That is, with no surrender function, many will just ignore the game as being forced to play out a losing game for a long period of time is completely undesirable.

I agree that surrender vote criteria should be explored. I'll let someone else do that.

    • Please add. I am fine with making it more restrictive than 20 minutes (maybe a certain deficit in gold, towers or kills), and I believe that everyone should need to agree. BUT, a concede button would be REALLY helpful.

The chances of a comeback are startlingly different between the games, with dota being a worse comeback game.
Sorry but there are so many game that ppl got rape for the first 20 min and then came back at around 30 to 40 minute mark because of late game heroes.

I'm not ignoring it, but it has already been mentioned in this thread at least 10 times, so I find it kinda unnecessary to repeat it again. Well, even Valve wrote that in their article that they see in AFKing people a problem.
Of course the solution is not to ban everyone who doesn't play the game like you (=Valve) supposed it to be played, but I just wanted to tell you that the argument "we need forfeit because currently everything afks and reporting is not an option" seems to be too onesided because of what I stated already: No matter if forfeit is possible or not there will be ragers, griefers, and afkers because you'd still have to vote and in your public team the people usually don't share all the same opinion.

          • I think we can count on valve/icefrog to come up with some sort of ingenious solution to the problem, so stop fretting.

Remember backdoor rage, back in they day? ice fixed that with a solution that I don't think anyone in the community suggested. I expect a similarly clever solution to the forfeit issue.

            • Add forfeit, but with a punishment. Something like having to wait 15 minutes until your next game. That should keep it from being abused.

                  • Please... I mean really. Guys there is a reason why pretty much every single league/client/inhouse in Dota has a forfiet rule/option, not to mention LoL and HoN.

If the ENTIRE team wants to forfeit a match they will whether or not there is a forfeit function, deal with it.

And if not? That's the question. Deal with it.

Then they will have to play. Many times in many leagues I have been "that bastard" 1/5 who doesn't FF just because I believe there is a chance. Never have they stopped playing but still tried to fight, and if they were to stop playing that's exactly what they would've done if there wasn't a forfeit function. You may not believe it but the majority of Dota players aren't griefers and trolls.

If 1/5 doesn't forfeit == the system in place right now but valve is being that last person punishing you for abandoning. Forcing you to stay.

                        • Allow conceding for 5-man premades. PROBLEM SOLVED.

                          • One of the best things about dota is the ability to make a huge comeback. If you add in a surrender/concede function it removes that element from the game. And plus the feeling from one huge comeback can make up for getting owned in 5 games, at least for me lol.

this is spot on, in all the leagues ive played in there has always been a forfeit option, I even think that dotapickup researched their games and found the avg length of a game to about 40 mins and therefore implemented forfeit after 40 mins of play.

                              • No. It doesn't remove that option, because you don't have to concede. You can still play for a huge comeback, and it happens in HoN all the time, it happened in league matches with a -ff rule as well. This thread is filled with people touting the belief that having a concede option will automatically force you to concede as soon as you're behind, which isn't the case at all. The reasons being touted are utterly ridiculous, from somehow making the entire playerbase want to win less (encourages a defeatist attitude herp derp) to removing the ability to make a comeback (herp derp, comebacks are fun and it will remove it from the game) - it's ridiculous.

HoN and LoL's concede functions are not perfect, but they don't demonstrate any problems inherrent to an FF function at all. They actually demonstrate that most of the problems that traditionalists are bringing up are not founded at all, and in real world scenarios, don't happen.
