Let me bold this for you,
They work hard to outplay the other team not to reap the fruits of the labour?

If I farm a divine rapier to kill the five of you, I want to kill the five of you. You can't be like oh we can't win so gg wp bye bye.

The fruit of your labor is winning the game, not farming enemies who aren't having fun.

There's no fun in playing for 20 minutes and winning because the other team forfeited.

        We play for fun.

          • I know Valve won't be implementing public stats like Kills, Deaths and Assists, so I assume fountain farming will go hand in hand with being in the position that your two Ancient towers are either going down or are extremely vulnerable. It won't play out like Heroes of Newerth games do, I'm sure.

This is an argument for an extreme case. If your team played so bad that you are getting fountain farmed for long enough that it affects how enjoyable the ENTIRE game was for you, then you (objectively) deserve to deal with that. But even I agree, that type of situation always sucks.

Let's not stray from my actual input: the point I made is not that a forfeit option wouldn't have it's uses, it's that it would cause more problems than it would solve. I really do believe that; I saw it happen in HoN, I know it happens in League of Legends based on overhearing people play and I really do feel that it would really damage the attitudes of players in general if it become standard practice in Dota 2.

I think to preserve the integrity of team attitude and togetherness, you have to make some sacrifices. If that means a group of players that couldn't work together have to get fountain farmed because they got severely outplayed so that 9 other games can be close, hard fought matches, I see that as a necessary negative.

            • I'll be honest, I made this thread as more of a formality. Valve will implement a forfeit function of some kind, we just don't know what stipulations it will have. Lets discuss that shall we?

Yes they will add some sort of FF, that is for sure, I just don't want it to be too easy to spamm and fail games that should still be playable

                    • Even though you are putting words in my mouth, I will try to reason with you. I said having a significant lead most likely determines the winner. I am sure you can look up the word "significant" somewhere.

Conceding is a team decision. It has nothing to do with the - since we love random numbers so much, let's say 1 out of 10 - typical leaver/ragequitter, since it's a vote being influenced by EVERY player on the team. How can you say you don't trust "the user" to decide when a game is over? You are a user yourself, why should people trust you? It's up to the team. End.

I don't know at which level you have played HoN, but the attitude you are describing definitely doesn't occur on a regular basis in games of even 1700+MMR.

Plus I like how you mistake my comment about playing HoN since the beginning - which is a measurement for experience - for an ePenis contest. Tells me about your thinking about arguments.

                      • I think it will mostly depend on the stats-tracking of Dota2. Simply, people in Heroes of Newerth will not play on if they risk having a bad Killeath ratio. They will AFK in the fountain rather than play on, even if the game is completely winnable. Every day, I get annoyed with my friends because they wish to concede a game. I never, ever concede a game if we have not yet lost atleast one sets of rax and they even get annoyed with me for that. When, however, we completely turn a game everyone feels so satisfied and had a really great experience achieving something that seemed impossible for them.

I am not against a forfeit system in Dota2 it just has to be well thougth out and a leaver system needs to accompany it for it to be successfull. Vote-to-kick must also be an option if you want the system to work or it will have many flaws. I must say I am very positive to the current FF/Kick/Leave-system in HoN. You hardly see leavers unless they have drops because once you get close to 5%, you don't want to play 50-100 games to play matchmaking again.

This is true, and the system is retarded. The system should avoid these type of things that enlarge e-penis and concentrate more on a great game experience.

It should be easy to implement such a system to avoid that behaviour. For example a good beginning would be not showing K ratio or other e-penis enlargment stats (as it is now) and provide some real bonus score for a team that defend and try to win until the end stimulating good competition. At the same time a small bonus should be assigned to fast win like before 20 minutes. In This way looser team will be stimulated to not give up until the game is really ended, and the winner team will be stimulated to finish the game asap, not killing and bitching around just for fun and sometimes with the precise aim of trolling loosers.

Stimulating good competition and agonism, avoiding retarded-like behaviour like we see in hon in the reported cases is a must that Dota 2 should accomplish.

my 2 cents, sry english is not my first language

                          • Yeah people in HoN always value their KDR higher than anything and afk in the fountain. Holy shit, please...

Just add you are solo queuing and playing in the lowest tier possible, then it's at least somewhat believable.

                            • Its a good idea, but what happens when i really want to get out of my game, for whatever reason, i got owned a couple times, ya mu carry might be farmed, but i'm so underfarmed and underlevelled that though my team is doing alright, but i just dont want to play anymore, so i start intentionally feeding, until the gold for the other team is so high that we can forfeit. Can't rely on kick-votes if the other team will be involved.

                              • Of course they can implement a FF function, but what difference will it make?
If you want to FF/concede you will have to leave the game, because: "THAT, IS FOR YOU TO DECIDE".

I think that they shouldn't implement the FF function until they have a somewhat working leaver protection system,
as these two work with each others hand in hand.
