  • KDR sounds like a bad idea in general. Overall wins and losses will be better since it will entice people to fight harder and try to win. People also won't cower in the tower and rather have fun trying to take a cheap last shot on their over confident carry destroying your base.

It looks like they are pulling a ton of stats so almost anything is possible, up to providing KDR for different times during a match, specific heros, and in what locations around the map - where you could filter out the fountain for e.g. Interested to see how it pans out.

      • intelligent forfeit system could be codeable imo.
if the game knows that your game is lost, you can forfeit. either you cant.
the game already knows about what hero is a carry and telling by items, gold and so can see if the enemy carry is fed enough.
the steam score could also help to determine if the game is forfeit-able.
The thing is, it wont let you forfeit just because.
        just an idea. : D

        • DLG's (Dotalicious) !ff system works (after 20 mins need whole team to forfeit), but that's not to say it will work for Dota 2.

Right now it works for a number of reasons:
          • A large number of people using DLG are experienced players.
          • If you have forfeited but at least one person on your team has not, you have no choice but to continue playing properly. If you afk/feed or purposely lose the game, you can get reported and banned.
          • People don't want to get banned from DLG. It's pretty much the best client.
          • You are not allowed to make duplicate accounts.

Dota 2 will not have the resources to look through replays to figure out if someone has given up a game on purpose. If a forfeit function is implemented, it will have to be carefully designed and better than HoN's one, which sucks in my opinion.

            • repost: I had a 4 minute game today because everyone on the other team just left. I Think a FF function after 10 or 15 minutes would be nice. But if you leave before that or after without FF'ing you should not be able to RE-Q within 15 minutes.

              • i think a system for ff will be implemented for open beta and/or later for the game ... i don't see a reason for a ff system in this close beta tho ... u play for fun and detecting bugs now

                • I think there are clearly times when a FF is good, and in those situations it would be bad to not have it as an option. And clearly there are people who ff too easily and ff more than they maybe should.

One idea I have to solve the problem is to let people ff (after 20 minutes or whatever), but keep track of their ff percentage (percentage of games or possibly losses that they forfeit or concede). Then give people the option to choose to not play with people who have vastly different ff percentages than them. So lets say that I ff in 5% of my games. I could say that I only want to play with people who are within 5% of me (people with ff% from 0-10%). That way people could group themselves appropriately, and if they don't care it could put them wherever. Or rather they can choose to play with any range of ff% as long as their own forfeit percentage is within that range. As a second example, if my ff% is 20%, then i could choose to be matched with people with percentages from 0-20%, or 20-100%, or 10-25%, or whatever, but not 0-15%, because my percentage is higher than that.

With this system the people who never want to ff and always (or almost always) want to play to the end could volunteer to play with other people who have a similar attitude, possibly with longer queue times. The same for people who just want to ff quickly if the game is advantaged to one team. And for people who don't care they don't have to give it any thought. This solution is simple and doesn't require complicated rules about when you can or cannot ff. I would like similar systems with regards to leavers and skill level too honestly. Let people decide who they want to play with, as long as they themselves fall within the group of people they want to play with. I hope I'm being clear.

while i agree with you on many points, i don't know if the % of ff will be fair, because the % won't tell exactly if this guy doesnt FF alot of the times or not, what if u have losing streak and u keep getting bad teams, where the game is usualy decided after picks and wrong lane setup + outplayed

                      • In my opinion, forfeit tool should be added on tournaments only. While in pubs.. not.

well like I said you could make it percentage of losses. As you accumulate more games the problems you mentioned will go away, since they are caused by small sample sizes. The idea is that everyone has a point where they want to ff, but that point is different for different people. As you play enough games, your ff percentage should be somewhere in the ballpark and give a good idea of how much you like ffing. Just make people play 50+ games before they can use the feature, and that way they'll have a big enough sample size. If you find yourself ffing 100% of your losses, it's unlikely that it's all bad luck. It's very possible that you ff too early some of the time. So why shouldn't others have the option to not play with someone who forfeits every game? If you want a lower percentage, there's an extremely easy solution. Don't forfeit.

I think you'd have to allow people to reset occasionally, in cases of bad luck like this or whatever, but then they'd have to do the 50 games again playing with whomever before they could play with people who ff a certain amount.

                              • Well i dont like these restrictions, if you do this u cant play with these guys... i mean its not fair, also i feel that you cant port the hon system over to dota. In hon there is a very little change to turn a game because its just to fast paced.
I mean valve has to do something but dont restrict anything, maybe they already figured it out and our disscusion is pointless .
