Hitbox selection, heromodels, treemodels are square/enormous causing misclicks.

    time to upload some ugly evidence on how horrible the hitboxes are atm.

    most of these screenshots are with me trying to click on a unit/tree BEHIND the one being selected and having to move the camera OVER the tree/unit just to select it rather than being able to select it from ANYWHERE on the current display. i should not have to move my screen to just click on a unit/tree that i already can see.

    i would assume there are plans to align then if not at least SHRINK them a bit being that some of those trees are bloody huge and you cannot click through them if the camera is misaligned to what your intentions are.

    I have had trouble eating the tree I'm targetting too.

    Related question: is there a key to swing the camera left-right like there was in WC3?

      Tree selection has always been that way (I mean wc3 too) and given the angle we see the world from, it is inevitable...

        interesting find, could have swore hitboxes were disabled from viewing...?
        CPU make and model: intel i7 4700MQ 2.4ghz

          it'd be nice to have trees that arn't gigantic blocking the other ones. Hon doesn't have this problem as much. Most of the time I can target the tree I want correctly.

            for trees, it should be selected via the ground area it occupies, then it wouldn't matter what camera angle you are at, you can always select the tree you want, i'd say do this for units too, but then it would fuck with people trying to select beastmasters hawk or a batrider that's flying so :/ for units i dont think we can get around the current system without causing issues. I do have alot of misclick issues tho especially trying to use targetted spells when there is like an enemy creep wave around and a hero that is tall (example: try and click sheep on a weaver that has a doombringer standing right beside him and also surrounded by enemy creeps, its almost impossible to target weaver, especially if he's behind doom a bit)

              there is no way in hell you can honestly say this is the "same" as wc3. wc3 allows you to hit any tree at any time, yes they overlap each other a bit but you can still target them. i said this before it feels like the maps curved and not flat because of this.

                    I don't think tree selection has always been this way.

                    Sometimes I will be far away from a tree with my quelling/tango and still can click it even when the reticule is quite clearly on the ground.

                      What command is it that shows the hitboxes. Would like to do some testing myself.
                      So probably heroes getting hit by Elune's Arrow even though it looks like a miss, is caused by hero hitboxes being too huge or the arrow hitbox itself is huge.

                        actually yes I want to know this as well I have noticed that there some times seems to be far too much distance between units when hitting with hook or arrow but it hits them any way, the hitbox maybe too large and thus causing this issue.

                            I've never had so much trouble selecting hitboxes in DotA as I do in DOTA 2. It just feels like things "get in the way" of each other and it's hard to really select the unit you want.
