  • Visual ward valid placement confirmation

One thing I've noticed, mostly because I played hon a bit a year ago or so, is that wards in dota2 can be capricious. Especially when you try to ward some of the higher places. The place will be entirely flat, yet it will return "Invalid ward placement" errors until you find the right spot for it. I'd like to have like the cursor become a ward when using them, and it'd turn red or green depending on wether you can use it at that spot or not, so it's faster to find out where to use it. Another way would be to color the map with a green/red overlay when you click a ward but that'd be pretty ugly I think and potentially ressource intensive. Alternatively let people ward where they want I guess, not entirely sure why I can't drop the ward where I want, I guess you can only drop it to places you can blink to which kinda makes sense but is still unintuitive. Not a huge deal since eventually you learn all the spots by trial and error, but seems like an unnecessary hurdle to new players when they already have to learn where to place wards depending on the game flow, then they also have to learn where exactly they can click to drop the wards in these spots.

Any word on this? It's a huge bother to go treasure hunting when it should take no more than one second to place a ward.

I'm gonna go ahead and bump this.

If it looks wardable, it should be wardable. I haven't played DOTA since early 6.xx so I can't remember all the valid ward spots, maybe DOTA2 is just being weird, but this needs to be fixed. Either make them wardable or update the terrain so it doesn't look wardable.

Color notification is a great idea.

I agree. From HON experience, it would be nice to be able to place wards in trees for countering the easy lane.

I can deal with the ragers, and I can deal with the feeders, but when I get invalid ward placement hold me the fuck back.

HELL YEAH! this needs to be fixed right, we lose pretty good spots because of this and the fact that anyone could ward useless ground it's not relevant, if you notice the ward is not good there u won't put it there again but u must learn the positioning by trying it, that message makes the user lose time and considering the spots are usually warded for both sides this can't happen because the support get bigger chances to get killed (and being a support it's hard enough already to have to be dealing with that message).

Yes make the ward glow red when you are not able to place it on the location. Its indeed a good idea.

Not glitched its an intended mechanic, the map have some places that they blocked the placement of wards. This is a dota 1 mechanic.

Rosh pit looks pretty wardable but its not, The ward blocked places are basically the same.

You can place wards between trees you just cant put it on the side of a cliff or on a forbidden location such as Rosh pit.
