As long as you don't open up 2 Dota instances it should be fine. You can run 2 Steam instances as usual.

This is something that you should have stated when this was implemented, instead of quietly punishing innocent people and wasting so much of their time. At least you are actually saying something now...

There's has been a thread for a whole year with even more pages and viewers about South American players asking for a real server (not one where only Brazilians can play) and it has been ignored all this time

              • I'm fascinated by the paranoia in this thread. So many people seem to believe that Valve are issuing silent bans without notification via the client or via VAC.

Firstly, there's a much more effective solution to mmr farming: only match 2 players from the same IP address in the same match, on the same team. In case the benefits of this aren't obvious, let me detail them.

                1) Parties running on the same machine/LAN can play together legitimately.
                2) One player running 2 accounts whether or not they're on the same machine, via the same internet connection, can only be at a disadvantage.
                3) Custom lobbies can be legitimately used for testing purposes.

Secondly, if there is a problem with item farming then this is a problem with the economy. Trying to fix this by a naive ill concieved idea that screws over the game is not the correct approach and it is not how Valve operate their economy. The whole principle is that the economy shouldn't effect the game. The correct solution is that if the economy is being abused then fix the economy so that it can't be. In the matches that I play in, I see only genuine players, who are actually playing the game. Where are these item farmers anyway? Let me suggest that items aren't dropped where item farmers operate. This solves the problem while leaving the vast majority of users unaffected and leaves no legitimate user banned from matchmaking.

Pretty obvious right? So why did Vavle not think of this? They probably did but haven't decided to or got round to implementing it yet. The idea that they would implement a ridiculously half-assed system in its place just doesn't add up. It's not how they operate.

                To avoid LPQ:

                Don't draw attention to yourself
Don't use voice or chat except for 'ss'
                Mute all at lvl 1
                Only play in parties
                Get alternate accounts
Limit your usage to one or two games per day per account
                Don't play too well
Don't play on Sunday or Monday
Wait until the developers reset LPQ status

If you're getting matched with trolls or feeders:

You may have been placed in a hidden pool. There is no known way out of this, apart from moving to a different account.

So Craig, please tell me why I have a 9 Hour queue running right now on my Dota 2? Explain me the fact that I cannot play a single matchmaking from MY PC and MY account, however my girlfriend who is is standing next to me, with her computer as well, can play just fine (2-3minutes queue), but if she logs my account on her computer, she cannot find a game, (20minutes + queues)...

I would like you to review my account and point out if I am an MMR Exploiter as well:
                  http://dotabuff.com/players/90811116/matches

Because my main account: http://dotabuff.com/players/90811116/matches is Shadow banned, I cannot play the game, I cannot make use of my compendium nor level it up right now, quite frustrating.

I am shadow banned because I use a software called SOFTXPAND to play games with my friend who doesn't have a gaming PC, only a laptop, however we don't play DOTA togheter, he is still learning, in fact we haven't played a single match of DOTA 2 togheter, I play only ranked matches, and he can't even play ranked (he is level 8).

Valve new shadowban system is punishing everyone, even those who didn't cheat or exploit.... zzz

Why don't valve add a button (MMR EXPLOIT) so we can easily show them who is actually MMR Exploiting (like a 0 kills / 45 deaths enigma) I had on my team back in the day?

I already have done a few pages ago. It's most likely a bug in the matchmaking server side code. Messages from the matchmaking server when a match is ready are probably being sent for an old connection that hasn't been cleaned up properly due to some dodgy reference counting on client instances.

I suspect that its probably leaking memory too, so sooner or later the matchmaking server will need to be reset, which could clear this issue for accounts that are currently subject to it, though it might take a hell of a lot of zombie connections before this happens.

That matchmaking server's always been a bit flaky. I remember one case where I launched the client for the first time in many hours and I was offered a match before I even clicked the find button. I accepted but and when I got into the match everyone else has 0 matches played.

There's still some weird bug in there that's been in there for years, where the find button doesn't appear sometimes, which can be fixed by starting a custom lobby then leaving it.

It has loads of other issues too that I can't even be bothered to start to try to convince people of becuase it takes weeks or months of discussion before anyone starts to accept issues on this forum.

This is not a personal review thead.
Fletcher has already stated the rules of the bans and so has support.
Now you have to wait it out (2 months), you might aswell try to get good at DotA on a smurf.

Again, there will not be any swift changes or pleads getting reviewed. There MIGHT be a change to their system with how it detects these users but that's uncertain for now.
Tl;dr system might get innocents, it is a shoddy system and that's all.

It's must be a rush fix. Did the item farmers work out a way to make a significant profit from compendia? Or perhaps the market value and compendium point drop rate has caused a surge in item farming.

There must've been some very serious problem with the economy that warranted a panic fix. I guess people would feel cheated now if economy was fixed and the compendia or point drop rates were changed. Perhaps this is actually the lesser of two evils.
