  • Spectator Feature: Nominations for MVP & Best Support

Why not have a spectator feature instead, that allows games with above 10 watchers to have a vote poll at the end of the game to vote for MVP and Best Support?

    For example,
A game that has been played for 45 minutes just ended.
There were at least 10 (subject to change) spectators viewing this game.
These spectators will be able to nominate 1 player for "MVP" and another for "Best Support" at the end of the game. (Completely optional for the spectators.)
However, the spectators that can nominate should have at least 50 games played by themselves and have watched that particular Live game for more than 10 minutes.
The top most nominated player gets the award for that particular game.

These nominations will appear for the Dota players in their Dota Profiles. (How many times they were awarded for a game, etc.)

Nominations can also be awarded for replays, however, these replays ought to be "Tournament" games instead. This is to prevent abuse. (This is a secondary idea.)

He's the hero this community deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So we'll hunt his identity, because he can take it, because he's not our hero. He's a silent buffer, a watchful nerfer. An IceFrog.

It stands for Most Valuable Player.

It can mean anything, and it is up to the spectator to decide.

Usually awarded to carry players or players showing great skill using a particular hero/items/positioning.

Why not just let them choose which player they liked most? :P
No need to make everything so complicated imho

Thats precisely what MVP will represent. A spectator can attribute anything that determines the MVP award.

The Best Support award is to encourage players to try out supporting roles too.

Not to mention it is possible a single player gets awarded both.

the only bad thing about this is you have a very low chance to get on the top live board, and people just don't watch other matches especially since valve decide to remove the 64 viewer limit

but i voted yes, because i like the idea

Btw, does anyone know how Valve chooses its "top live games"?

Is it usually by spectator count? How does a game with zero spectators to begin with have a chance to make it to the top live board then?

I think it chooses after "skill" in the game.
Some Valve employee wrote something about this a long time ago, but I won't search for it^^

They are selected randomly as far as I know.

Actually Typhox is right. I dunno if it has always been this way or just something they changed in the last patch, but one of the top games right now is one with Puppey playing.

Just want to add a detail I find important.

The nomination for Best Support is a subtle but simple encouragement for players to play well as a support hero.

It deserves to be highlighted because, in my opinion, playing a good support requires more skill than play a good carry because a carry's role is very focused on last hitting as much as possible for the most part of the game, while the support has to know when to engage, ward, what items to buy to best maximise their effectiveness, when to harass, how to position themselves and to get last hits that the carry cannot take.

I dont think so. Most "Top live matches" have the same people on it.
