  • I'm happy with the stats as they are currently. Making them public will just cause problems no doubt.

Once you're in a game with someone you're in a game with them. Seeing their stats won't make them a better player, it'll just make you more likely to flame them if they're bad.

      • the second page of this thread has someone calling out a 1500 mmr hon player as "low tier" whilst being himself in the 1600 bracket (dogshit awful).

Basically this entire thread is an advert on why not to implement stats and luckily enough for the non e-penis driven im pretty sure valve is smart enough to notice.

The problem with this logic is that it assumes people that play carry's only ever play carrys and people that play support only ever play support. IE If you usually play a carry, playing a support will bring your KDR down so no one who regularly plays carry will ever want to play support for a game.

Well.. im about to hit my 1000th game and im starting to feel "what is the point?"

Average k/d, wards, creepkills & denies should be introduced into everyones profile so anyone can check it out. When i join a game with 4 friends i want to see if the 5th is a capable player before letting him solo mid with his sand king.. with stats i couldve gone into his profile and notice he has an average k/d of 3 kills and 19 deaths and 49 creepkills per game. I would not have allowed him to solo mid. (he was probably also russian)

No honestly, it is what dota needs.. rankingboards for publicplayers and whatnot.

Proper Mathmaking will fix that (assuming that you are actually a better player than said Sand King)
So no, we do not need (public) Stats. Private stats i would like very much (on a per hero base).

            • Private stats is a good idea. You can show it to your friends and compare if you want to, but i can not be abused in public-.-

                • IMO the Private and Public stats is the best way to solve this. Everyone will be happy. The ones that doesn't wanna get flammed wont show their stats. The ones that doesn't care will. And more important, EVERYONE will be able to learn from them. Stats is very important because of this. I already learned a lot with my stats from HoN during my time there, and I will keep learning. People need to understand that stats is not made just for people to be elitist.

                    disagree...

as stated before, this won't stop people from stat-farming... and yes, people will ks and creep all game long to get better stats. Furion will be the most popular hero as he can easily get 300+ creeps and with a dagon ks even more than zeus.

disagree furion with dagon will not win the game->low winning percentage despite good overall stats->i will know such players are douches, especially with furion most played

                      • We have no need for stats, elitism is already rampant in the Dota community and is far more game breaking than any bug, glitches or unbalances. It has been the most consistent reason I have never been able to convince my friends to join this game for the last 3 years or so (with dota1 or HoN before dota2). If the game introduces detailed stats, it is in my opinion that it will take a big step backwards for the genre. I know that I will personally no longer view this as a team game, because there is no longer any competition between 2 teams, but now also competition between all players within each team. We have no need for this elitism especially when it adds zero to the game as a whole. HoN is a standing example of this attitude and its destructive nature, and anyone that has ever played that game knows just how insanely stupid the hero select screen becomes with trolls, flamers and general ego competition. If OP seriously no longer "see's the point" of Dota 2 because he doesn't have a few numbers reinforces how he's such a good boy, then move on and play another game.

                          copy pasted from hud discussion:

are you guys serious? dota elitists are such hypocrits... if someone proposes mana bars or forfeit: "no wtf go back to lol, fag!11!! this is competitive game dont ruin it for me11!!!!!" if someone proposes public stats, harsher punishments for leavers, or cs scores for teammates:"no, pls not i dont want to see how bad i am, this is only for flaming purposes11!!!!"

i really do not know if you want this game to be dota2 or hello kitty online.

                          • Totally agree with Pandamonium. Playing like a retard makes you lose games most of the times, and you could see things like "Most played hero: Zeus", K/D/A 12/6/3, this is usually just a KSer trying to boost his stats. Noob players are easy to find throught stats. And as his name is Pandamonium he prob played HoN long enough just like me to know that stats didn't make the HoN community the worst possible.

I already met a TON of jerks here in Dota 2, and the game doesn't even have stats! A team of 5 friends saying big plays all game long comes to mind now... There is just not a single and proper way to prevent people from being stupid. Stats help players envolve. Stats are good if you want to keep track of how yours friends are doing (or the people playing with you). Stats are good for you to know retards before the game even starts or some good players that you'll have to be aware of. It's an awesome feature that already worked for some games. There is no way to say that it'll ruin Dota 2's community because you have no proof of that happening before and you didn't see this in DotA, so the only thing that has to happen imo is VALVe to use this new client for something usefull and IMPLEMENT THINGS THAT SOME PEOPLE FROM THE COMMUNITY DISAPROVE WITHOUT EVEN TRYING.

Things like Stats, Concede, and others stuff that a lot of people agree that needs to be implemented but some just disagree with them. Use this test client for this stuff, and those who doesn't want them will try it out and see how it goes, if some doesn't like it they can just use the normal client and if the majority does it'll stay in the game. It's quite simple. Use the beta to test new stuff.

People will flame each other anyway, they just won't have statistical data to prove which one is better. I don't know if that is worse or not actually. At least if it was obvious that you are better maybe people would answer to your advices instead of thinking they are better and just flame. I am not sure if what you are saying is a valid argument. I agree elitism and any form of ego competition is a major problem in DotA, I just disagree on the reasons. Most of the so called "elitists" are just plain bad players who think they are good. Ignorance and the denial of lacking skill. These are the real reasons behind elitism.

I personally would like it if I had access to my personal stats even if they are private. I believe public stats are not necessary, as long as the matchmaking system knows them or does its job without them I will be happy. Flamers/elitists will find different reasons to flame either way though.
