Man, i must say, that whole your post is everything what's in my mind. Like i said before, my english is bad, so i didn't want to write to much about my personal opinion (don't know if i achive this ;x)

Anyway, I see that you are understand my point. And thanks to you for your opinion, I agree with every your word. But I think some people, who didn't play online poker for real money would have problem to understand what we are trying to say and how is even like to play such games.
Finally, like some said earlier, this just an option. If this option would be implemented, there would be still simple matchmaking, just like now.

I think they're already putting in support for tournaments. I'm not sure having real money would ever be allowed, but having the ability to bet points which could be used in the cosmetic shop would be cool.

this is a bad idea, eventually people will run multiple clients with hard to beat bots to rake in free money from beginners. as always when money is involved, it brings out the worst in people.

You must be joking if you think a team of 5 humans who are just above average good in playing Dota 2 cannot defeat a team of 5 AI Bots.

Sure, these AI Bots will be pretty good at last hitting, but they suck totally at lane harassment, trilaning dominance effects, as well as when they reach mid-lategame, they totally have no map sense.

Bots will not be a problem at all because Dota is really complex game.

Yet another poker reference - Poker is based on odds and mathematics but player reading and making moves based on your opponent is also really important.
There are poker bots that can play slightly winning / even breaking poker, but bots are actually a blessing for an adaptive player. Bots have always patterns -> patterns have always leaks -> finding leaks = profit. This is in poker where computational power can level the playing field drastically between the bots and the players.

In Dota there is insane amount of mutating variables, most situations aren't easily calculated, picking, situational skill & item builds, warding, there are lots of counter moves and meta moves etc...
If someone could make a bot that is not easily exploitable, a bot that is truly adaptive, he could probably make loads of cash in A.I. programming field anyways.

I'm surprised that with the vast amount of all-pros we have in this community, a lot of people are afraid about betting and possibly profiting with their Dota prowess.

Dota 2 beta used to have a greyed out option, called torunament. I can see this becomign something like that.

It wont ruin the game. "kids" can choose not to join.

This is like saying a casino in a city will ruin the city, it wont if its implemented properly.

+1. Although make a sort of tournament buy-in limit. You don't want people to spend hundreds on one match and end up complaining to Valve about a buggy system or whatnot. Anyways the currency system would work how? Similar to Diablo 3's real money currency? Where whatever you win you can take out and use as real money or is it just going into the Steam Wallet? If so then why not make the prize a "buy an item in the game store" voucher? Higher end tournament will have vouchers which buy more expensive items (i.e Announcer Packs, couriers etc.).

i hope this can remove pay per view for watching tournament in dota.tv

nowadays we have admins for every tournament.
for this we would need MANY admins every day, cause dota isnt that static like poker rulewise.
or you make no rules and when a player disconnects, one team has lagg or other issues, they have to play or defwin for other team.

but still nice idea, maybe one day practicable.
