    • valve also need to remember that there are people that could have exploites (hell I had a javascript exploit on my PC for who knows how long and only did I find out during a full system scan that I did yesterday *pokes vac and steam guard* >.> so things like those could lead to crashes or dcing on your end but not valves (and no reconnect option)

      • Does that mean I'm not allowed to let my blood brother try a round on his PC?

Is it against the Steam TOS or would that be frowned on? My brother wants to try it out, but I got no spare key.

the thread has 13 pages already and all the last 3 pages are about is the same question over and over again. just read the posts and dont let this get a 200 pages thread.

just compare your steam account to a credit card. you have money and goods on it, you do not want to lose those goods.
would you give your credit card to a stranger on the internet? no.
would you give your credit card to a friend to wander about in another city with it? well, you shouldn't, but if you do it's your own risk.
would you give your credit card to your own brother? well, you should be able to trust that guy.

i think that's the most reasonable approach to this. valve tries to protect your account with those terms not their servers. it is just to prevent people from doing foolish mistakes and end up without their steam account creating unnecessary tickets for the steam support.
if you want to be entirely sure, read the ToS.
letting your brother play on your computer shouldnt be a problem in any case.
Make sure to read the Forum Rules as well as the stickied Threads of the Forum Section you are posting in.

Most of Game Admin are smart and don't ban account that are not really shared.
How they do that : With your Ip is provided the Main distribution frame , that doesn't change even with dynamic ip. If they see you Playing in new york at 7 pm and then playing in california at 8pm they now that it can't be you since teleportation doesn't exist yet. So basically they have a real clue about if it's you moving accross the country or if it's a real account sharing. They don't need to know your config or your ip.

            • Can we have a clear definition over what is account sharing? Since I am curious of it.

I have two computers a tabletop at home and gaming-laptop for LANs (or parties - tbh) I use same steam on Both. SO if I go and play DotA at my friends place WITH HIM during a LAN and my steam profile logs in from different IP and ISP-service. Am I flagged for sharing? I am just curious.

Can someone please go and find out the parameters for this and post them here. I am really curious. Since If my account gets revoked for loging from different IP and computer then Valve has managed to break EVERY finnish Internet privacy/Customer Rights/Customer Privacy/Product and License ownership laws I know of... I am not one to sue, due to the effort but I know that the Customer Right Bureau will. Also - This can lead Valve in to real issues in Finland. I think this should be cleared properly.

Its not forbidden, do some research. You are allowed to use your steam in different locations, valve would be stupid to ban your account just because it was used at another location. Account sharing with the public doesnt work anyway, since theres steam guard.. at least it would be extremely difficult.

All they say is: dont share your steam account due to sensible information and possible abuse. that simple.
