I do, i am telling the people wich states it'll be prohibited based on facts out of dota 2 / valve universe.
    Can't you understand it?

    • Posting this for the third time seeing as no one seems to have seen it.

Explicitly stated here by a Forum Staff member that macros and scripts are illegal.

I really want to insult your spelling, but I'll wait until I run out of arguments because god damn it this is the internet.

On a serious note, we're discussing whether it'll be prohibited or not, with arguments as to why it seems likely that it would. Unless I missed a post, nobody who's against macros has stated anything as a fact (except CvP).

          What facts do you want?
          1. Moves are executed instantly, beyond human capabilities.
          2. Not everyone has access (in general).

Those two alone make it so that it should be banned.

          • These types of scripts/macros are illegal to use and falls under the category: "illegal software."

To clarify, using console to change various settings/tweaks, remapping hotkeys are perfectly fine.
Using console/autoexec.cfg etc to create macro is not. This includes, but not limited to, invoker/meepo/enigma etc (combo) scripts etc.
Anything non-default that actively helps you play your game is cheating except some very specific exception like hotkey remapping. Scripts that perform micro/macro do not fall in to these exceptions.

This has been the official stance about autoscripts/macros since ages when it comes to DotA and it will remain the same for Dota 2 until otherwise notified.

Just like at PlayDota.com, this rule will be strictly enforced in this forum. Please report the posts discussing these cheats.

If you have any specific questions, send me a PM.

            • I'm reopening this thread as Valve has finally taken action on this matter.

              http://store.steampowered.com/news/22017/

              * A key input can no longer be bound to multiple console commands, except when cheats are on or spectating.

While I personally welcome this change, it will also cause a lot of collateral damage where people were using macro for things which are not really "cheating" but just convenience.

For example these are some things that can improve the experience for all without being cheats:
              1. option to have multiple chatwheels
              2. one tap unit selection + camera focus
              3. use space as modified key (so you can have space+<key> as separate bindings)
              4. toggle autoselect summonned unit
              5. toggle autoattack etc.
              6. toggle openmic

I totaly agree about multiple chatwheels!! I had _4_ different chatwheels and I'm used to it! how can I have multiple chatwheels now?!

Consider me once of the people taken down with the collateral damage.

It's pretty great that I have to relearn all of my key bindings thanks to this. I have been using the same layout for 3 years. It's firmly in my muscle memory so its going to be a VERY uncomfortable few weeks.

Way to screw over legitimate users, Valve.
EDIT: I would like to add if I was using any macros I could recreate them with my keyboard and be pretty much unaffected. It really seems like its mainly legitimate users who have been put out here.

                  • The perversity of the change is that it does not even affect any cheaters with actual impact on the game,
since those use REACTIVE scripts by means of external memory hacking like Ensage - i.e. auto-hex, auto-combo invoker, auto-pudge-hook, auto-sunray, auto-killshot-on-dmg-threshold, auto-stack, auto-blink-away, auto threads/armlet toggle before receiving dmg. None of those can be made with the in-game autoexec.cfg PASSIVE scripts that rely upon your reaction time and have zero dynamic functions.
And like a famous russian hacker said, client.dll hacking is running rampant, there is no protection for it, there are no VAC bans for it, and when those come, it's already so late that it's pointless after thousands of ruined games.
Deja vu, -override_vpk. Fine, there were commercial reasons behind that.
But what in the world is sane about this, when it literally affects only quality-of-life improvements made by users because Valve failed to provide them with in-game options?
                    Troubleshooting crashes

You are right but I think Valve mainly added this to keep tournaments safe (remember the recent CSGO hack in LAN games?). But Valve must remember that casual players are the life of this game.

                      • I think what I had implemented in my autoexec would be a nice addition to the game.
                        • Let users chose 1 or 2 sets of 8 messages (the messages you use the most).
                        • Scrolling up or down when holding the chatwheel button changes the messages on the chatwheel (I'll call these pages)
                        • First and second page you get your first and second set of messages, respectively.
                        • If you scroll beyond that, you get ALL messages available (3rd page messages 0-7, 4th 8-15, and so on)

It's cool that we have almost 100 messages, but everyone will use the same 10 because they're more important when compared to the rest.

                        • one tap unit selection + camera focus
This one hurts to have removed, all my camera control and multiple unit selection depended on the hability to press a key and go back to the hero. I can have a key select my hero and I can have a key have the camera follow him, but I can't have both on the same key. I've almost fed a courier last match because of this.

I hope they can change this to something more reasonable. I can live without macros, but proper camera control is a must.

                          • If Valve engineers wanna have a peek at the potential for really awesome keybinds that has NOTHING to do with cheating, they should look at this: http://bit.ly/1TFgQmm

Talk about throwing out the baby with the bathwater.

then just check the pro's cfgs, why do harm to we normal players?

You can use autohotkey script (I have the same problem). It doesn't modify dota in any way, so you will not get vac.
