I'd wager that a lot of people will get 21:9 simple because they have started to mass produce panels of this aspect. It may or may not be the default of the future but I don't believe that they will disappear or become a niche product as they are very nice as an alternative to dual monitors.

This applies to having standard higher definition. I can see people moving towards 21:9 just like they have from 16:9. Not really an accurate statement.

Good day! I am the owner of the monitor LG 29EA93. (http://www.lg.com/ru/computer-products/ips-monitors)

Aspect ratio is 21:9 on it.
    The maximum screen resolution 2560h1080.

In the setting of the game is missing a required aspect ratio. This point is very unpleasant as it is impossible to play "full screen". When you select 16:9 HUD strays and does not appear as expected. Very much that the developers have added the required screen format in the game.

Just got a 21:9 monitor myself and got stuck on this problem. I guess it would be alright if the game at least let me play it with borders in a simple way but no such luck. I'm on linux and my current "solution" is to use a 2540x1440 borderless window and then add rules in my window manager to force centering and such. I can still see my desktop behind so it's not that beautiful and of course I'd rather they just fixed the oversized hud so I can play in native 21:9.

Whatever the case, I full support this idea. May be you should read my posts above.
Thanks for your support, and I have read your previous posts. I am just very frustrated that there is no solution after all this time.

Regardless, there are plenty of other games out there that support 21:9 at 2560 x 1080. Why should Dota 2, one of the most popular games, not be one of them?

There are many posts about users complaining about this lack of support, on these forums, as well as Steam community discussions. Are we against making end users happy now?

I'm sure many 21:9 monitor owners, including myself, would compromise with a format available with borders, rather than having to reduce our monitor capabilities.

And i'll even come down to what needs to be changed. The game already has a built in 2560 by 1080 available resolution, all that needs to be done is have HuDs that are scaled properly.

So can we stop with the excuses, and have someone deal with this?

Unless anyone has seen this for themselves, they have no right to argue that this resolution should not, or have any reason to not be supported.

I make the point again, that having to reduce our resolution to 1920 x 1080 is just silly. Get with the times valve.

Adding other things in 21:9 instead of black border is still an advantage though a tiny one. I personally don't have any issues with that however, I doubt valve will spend time on that given 21:9 is extreme minority and it will remain so in future.

Oh and your picture clearly shows the advantage of 21:9 if it displays all those pixels properly.

I have dual screens. Both on 1920x1080. I found you could add the minimap FULLY on one screen while your game is on the other.
Could you possibly do this? I think I used XSplit. Just selected the image area and portrayed it on the 2nd monitor. Not sure if this could work on a single however?
    Just a suggestion.
