    because if it's supposed to be equal or random, i don't think it is

    going by most of the sounds listed here:

    i can't say i've heard most of them. i've heard people say they've heard them but i myself almost never hear the unique lines from heroes upon rune pickup. for example, i play leshrac mid often and i don't think i've heard him use any of the lines that are listed there. i pretty much expect to just hear the name of the rune every time i see a hero running to pick a rune up.

    Yeah, I've never heard the alternate lines either.

      Same. Methinks it would be better if they were used when you use a bottled rune.
      Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

        I think they have to pick up the same Rune Multiple Times, the only one I noticed was Riki did in fact say the Invisibility Rune was Redundant (Though he really should only say that after level 6)

          These don't play at all currently. They will comment on a purchase but not a rune pickup.

            just a comment on bounty hunter's rune activation sounds:

            i think they're all absolutely awesome ("Does that mean I split the bounty three ways?") and it's good to see you guys making use of those sounds, though it seems like he never uses the 'rune name' files but rather always uses the alternate lines. was that intentional or am i reporting a potential bug?

            either way, great job, it'd be awesome to hear the rest of the alternate pickup lines on other heroes aswell.

                I hear the alternatives around 10% of the time, both from using bottle and without.

                  Mostly these are not hooked up at all for any of the heroes; they were meant as afterthoughts/asides that only the player would hear, as opposed to the pickup sound transmitted to the team. We haven't really found a good way to make them work. So people seem to know them from the soundsets on youtube even though they never play in the game. One exception is that Puck will occasionally play "One and one and one is three." ... Update: I see that BH has ALL of his pickup lines flagged to play. That is a bug, and will be fixed in the next update.

                    i guess the idea of playing them when the hero with the rune gets a kill/assist has been thought of already, but was shot down because there's already a lot of kill sounds. i thought they were meant to be things the heroes said instead of saying the rune name all the time, ergo i named the thread title 'alternative rune pickup sounds'. just skimming through them most of the lines roughly (through the response page i linked above), they still seem like they would all work as clever, team-wide rune announcements. just a thought.

                      Seriously?

                      What about just giving all of them, not just Puck or Bounty, a rather small chanse to say them? Like, 15%? That wouldn't hurt, really.

                      Or you could put them in to when a bottled rune is used.

                        Wow. Bounty Hunter's lines for runes are genius. You're taking them out? What the hell?

                          Why not just have those as the bottle sounds only for the player?

                          It'd give some variety, and they are all already there.

                          Just make them the sounds for when you bottle the rune and I will be happy.

                            there are already sounds for bottling runes. i think the rune sounds should play when the corresponding rune is contributing to some kind of player versus player interaction, like illusions are near an enemy when actual heroes are near aswell or when a hero is attacking with double damage

                              Yeah, the rune quotes are often quite good. I don't see why it's a problem if someone says it out loud to the whole team -- it's still pretty clear what the rune is, and even if it wasn't it appears in the chat-log.
