  • Classic DotA lines missing in DotA2.

    Having played DotA for so long, there are some lines from heroes I really miss, and I will forever hear in my head when I play the hero. While I realize you could not control the specifics of voices in DotA, some of them fit the DotA2 designs and would be a fun nostalgia for long-time players.

    Some personal lines I miss are:

    Chaos Knight: The ground shall run red with blood!
    QoP: Die smiling.
    Slardar: From the murky depths, I come.
    PA: I am the iron hand of justice.

    Gyro: They'll never hear me comin... and They came from....behind!
    Juggernaut: Excellent choice.



    Honorable mentions (for heroes not out yet):
    Ezalor: What is it now?
    Luna: How may I serve the goddess?
    Disruptor: The spirits are restless.

    Feel free to add lines you may miss .

    Yes, I honestly wanted Gyro to have "They came from... behind!" as a death response. The rest... Oh, yerp, some of the memories still whine within me.

    And yes, Techies will officially be ruined if they don't scream "Do not run, we are your friends!" when suiciding.
    Heroes this user should seriously reconsider ever picking again.

          there would be so many iconic lines which could have been introduced as easter eggs, but I guess Valve did away with all the WC3 voices. Maybe because of copyright issues.
          But here are some others I miss:

          Krob: "Hiiiiiiiii"
          Rhasta: "I hear you man", "I feel you man"

            actualy krob had that lazy "If I must" that was so funny to hear. some other hero now says "if I must", but it's not nearly funny as krobs from dota 1

                  I agree some of those lines fit the heroes quite well... but i don't know if Valve is allowed to use then since they are originally from Warcraft III...

                    ^They mostly are simple sentence... Shouldn't cause any issues.

                    DP for example says "You brought me back?" too, or SF with "Your soul is mine!".

                        Prophet says "Feel nature's wrath !" in both DotA games.

                        The thing I miss the most is the epic Chaos Knight battle cries with the horse screeching in the background. That voice set had an epicness level of over 9000. Now ? Not so much. Needs more "umph !" and horse sounds.

If you would've followed the long battle for the copyrights for the DotA title, you'd know that something that may be regarded as small as a soundfile, is a very big deal. It's not only the sentence itself, but also the voice actor and I don't think that either players n'or Valve would be very satisfied by replacing the voice actors (and still being forced to change the outcome so that it does not resemble the original enough to call for infringement).

                          My belief is that the reason for the fact that some phrases has made the transfer is because they are not particularly "core sounds" of the character. From my what I can tell, most of the soundfiles used in the original campaign are not used in DotA 2.

                              Look at the suggested lines in this thread and tell me how the fuck they gonna stop valve from using them. They're SIMPLE sentences, used in alot of games and movies, just like nearly every other line in DotA1.
                              The only lines they can't simply use are the lines directly related to WC3.
