I really hope they won't waste time and money on that. And no I'm not a native English speaker myself.

The only one that was confirmed was chinese, but that's handled by the chinese distributor.

Yeah, they're doing Chinese voice acting, the voices sound pretty good too. They showed one line of each hero cosplayed at a Dota event. They literally sound exactly the same, except in Chinese.
There was a video of it somewhere.

But Russia and other places aren't really worth the time and money for a small playerbase compared to China. Not to mention they don't need to be handled by a local company for Valve to launch there.

China is the majority of the Dota 1 playerbase, literally millions of players are Chinese. This is not going to fail, read your facts.

+1 to this.....This is not only useless, but costs lot of time (and money) that can be spend more valuable things...Dota 2 highly international game, and language option more than enough!!!

Games like LoL and even WC3 Dota had localized VAs but both games have 2 minutes of voice acting at best for each hero. With Dota 2 that would be at least 16 hours of new voice acting

so yeah it'll be in, at least for Chinese.

While I don't understand Chinese, I'll gladly look at youtube to see how they did it. I wonder if Mowry's Angels will have share the exact same voice in chinese Dota 2 as well, making the Chinese also rant that they can't tell Ahti-Mage, Necro, Slardar, Warlock and Beastmaster apart.

Oh God, please don't let this happen.

It'll be a total fail. Subtitle option will be more than enough.

Not even that is needed. Having the skills and the Tutorial in your local language is more than enough, even if you can't speak a single word english, you can still play the game as good as anybody else.

Trying to localize in Russian will be tough. Once a Russian Dota2 community tried to do something like that and it failed horribly. Not because of the voice acting, but because many Russian players refused to accept the Russian equivalents of the names for heroes and items. But once you leave these names in English and translate everything else the localization becomes a total crap.

I wasn't talking about skills and items, i know what they do. I was talking about the voice acting, the dialogues. My english is not that good to get all the lines/jokes. A subtitle option (even if they are in english) will help me (and many other people i guess) to get all those.

edit, i forgot that there's an option to enable subtitles in game. So we'll probably get this someday
