  • Suggestion - Spectate Friends

Quite often I see one of the people on my friends list in a game and I wish I could spectate them so I can taunt them later for how bad they are by comparison to my infinite awesomeness. You should be able to right click people on the "Playing Dota" list on the menu and just go to spectate, rather than having to hunt down their game in the watch games list.

I'm pretty sure you CAN do this. I remember doing it before.

You can (Though it's left click now), the issue you're experiencing is probably trying to spectate their game just as they start it. Since there's a delay on the stream, you have to wait a while for it to pop up.

Also, you can't spectate practice games unless they selected the option when they created it.

My only concern is what's to stop friends from spectating and chatting over vent to cheat?

              A delay

How long is the delay? Anything less than the length of ward life isn't long enough.

The delay is two minutes. It's a bit shorter than the lifespan of a ward, so it can be abused to locate wards planted by the enemy team.. but with a 2 minute delay, by the time you can get out there to counter ward it, half the ward's lifespan is already over.. so it's not that bad.

There does have to be a balance between preventing the ability to cheat and allowing people to have fun. It's already a bit frustrating that when I spectate a friend's game, I have a 2 minute delay between the excitement of hearing them shouting on vent and actually seeing anything happen. Two minutes seems about right for public matches. I imagine you'd want 5-6 minutes for tournament play, though.
